I am rooted. I am not very familiar with adb or Android terminal. However, I have mobile Odin lite. Can I download just the UCKK6 kernel without risk of wiping the device after or losing system settings? I have zimage extracted from the UCKK6 package and waiting for your green signal.

You can install just the zImage with Mobile Odin Lite. As far as I know, the UCKK6 kernel will work with the UCKH7 system binary. But why would you want to do that? I recommend that you stay on UCKH7. If you want to remain stock but improve the kernel, then install Entropy512's Daily Driver kernel only, using Mobile Odin Lite. That will give you ClockworkMod Recovery, improve your battery life and overall give you the best of the stock experience. That is exactly how I have my son's phone configured, since he is not technically minded.

Yes, you can install either kernel without a wipe.

You're not the first person to report a similar problem after using the zedomax kernel from galaxys2root.com. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure why that package causes the fail, unless you actually have the I727 instead of the I777, which was the case with one person. If you have the I727, then you are in the wrong forum.

If you do have the I777 then the files you will need to recover your phone are in the Download Repository, linked in my signature. It's after 11:00 pm and I'm going to bed. Tomorrow morining I am going on the road and will be out of town for the weekend. I probably will have occasional internet access but not very much or very often while gone. Maybe someone else here can give you some good advice.

I had to flash the secondary bootloader to get my jig working to reset the counter. I was wondering if it was possible to change the logo back to the Galaxy S2 logo ( it only says Samsung at the moment ) before I send my phone in for repair, unless it doesnt matter.

Can't install updates; will return to stock help?

I rooted my phone some time ago (don't recall which method (and unlocked it using Galaxy S Unlock, if that is relevant).

I've tried a number of times to install OTA updates available from Samsung, but, after reboot, it always says "Install interrupted, The software update could not be installed at this time." But then when I check Software Update, it says that my "Current software is up to date."

Three questions.

1. Why is the update getting interrupted?
2. Why does my phone say the software is current?
3. Is there a solution for this problem, e.g., return the phone to stock?

Many thanks!

It may be because the update detected root and aborted. I was running rooted stock 2.3.4 and could not complete the update, thank heavens!

I believe you need to be completely stock to complete the OTA update. For sure you can not have a custom kernel. If you are fully stock UCKH7 but rooted, that is probably enough to make the OTA update fail.

You have several options. Flash the stock UCKH7 non-root package and then do the OTA update. I know that will work from experience. You could flash the UCKK6 plus root package available from Entropy512 in the Return/Unbrick to stock sticky thread in development. You can just remove device manager and stay on UCKH7. Or, you could decide to install a custom rom.

Many here have avoided the OTA update because the UCKK6 distribution has some problems, the most major of which are the wifi battery drain bug, and that bluetooth hid (mouse, keyboard, etc) does not work.

Edit: I don't know if the unlock interferes with the OTA update process, but that is also possible.

Thanks to creepy and geo for your quick replies.

My only interest in getting updates is for when ICS arrives (soon apparently). Is that process different? Am I missing anything from these updates?

Creepy, you offered several options. Which do you recommend that is also the easiest and quickest?

I appreciate your wise guidance.
