I assume you have a windows computer. If not, you must use Heimdall instead of Odin.

This would usually be either a driver problem, or a usb connection problem.

First make sure that you have the correct USB drivers for the I777 installed on your computer. You should see "Samsung USB driver for mobile phones" in the "uninstall a program" utility of Windows. It is also possible that you have corrupt drivers installed. In that case, you would need to uninstall the drivers, reboot, and reinstall the driver package.

You should use a usb port that is connected to the mother board of your computer. If a desktop, that usually means use the port on the back of the computer. You must also have a good usb cable, as some don't work. Things you can try: use a different USB port, use a different USB cable, use a different computer.
Yeah I think it's a driver problem. I'm not new at this either. Odin has always worked for me until yesterday when I soft-bricked. Windows keeps giving me a message saying it cannot recognize this device. Should I use the drivers from Kies or download the USB drivers from Samsung.com?

Thanks very much for the guide creepyncrawly. Its really helpful for noob like me.

I am hoping someone can help me to get me back to stock. I got this mobile on ebay it came with unnamed rom and already had the warning triangle. I tried CM9 and had problem with my accelerometer ever since. I was asked to flash back to stock and that should solve my problem. I followed your guide and my custom binary count is 1 and has custom binary. I am not planning to return to store, so do I still have to get a jig and reset before I goto step 2? or can I try step 2 without resetting the counter?

You can leave the flash counter at 1

So what would one do if their phone won't boot at all, no recovery, no signs of life whatsoever? Any worries about sending it back in this state, though it had been rooted with UnNamed when it last lived?

So, I messed up with putting the GT-9100 firmware on my 1777. I followed these directions to set my phone back to the correct firmware, but have run in to some problems. I did everything successfully with odin, but when my phone rebooted it still said Galaxy S II GT-9100. But, the ATT screen was back. When I went to set up my phone, it says click on the android character. When I do this it keeps saying that there is an error with Google Services Framework, and to force close. I can't get past this part.

EDIT: Also, when I go back in to download mode. It still says,

Product Name: GT-i9100

EDIT: I think I fixed it, I used.

Samsung_GALAXY_S2_ATT_I777UCKJ1_.exe

The only thing that's wrong now is that the home button doesn't vibrate when I click it, the rest do though.

I am having a problem with this. I have done this once previously successfully. My battery died on my previous phone so I switched it out with my sisters to try to boot into recovery mode. Unfortunately the phone is being obstinate and not going into recovery mode rather just sitting at the yellow triangle screen and not doing anything. I was wondering if anybody had any insight.

My phone came with kk6, will the stock kh7 allow me to upgrade to kk6 or should I not even worry about it?
If you run the OTA update immediately after flashing back to stock, it should update the phone to UCKK6. I've tested this, but it has been several months ago. I assume the OTA update still works today.

If I were returning my phone in your situation, I would just leave it on UCKH7.

Thanks I did just that and it worked. First I tried to return it to at&t warranty center about 10 miles away. They told me since I had bought it less than a month ago, I had to return it to where I bought it. So I took it back to target, and they didn't have any more gs2s but
tiger found a store that did about 10 miles away. Of course the girl there had never done an exchange before, and it literally took her over an hour to do it.
I am back up and running, plus the price is lower and I got the difference of 55 bucks put back on my devout card, so I'm glad I did it
I exchanged it because I was having echo problems
