This guide will show you how to root your Xperia Z on 10.5.1.A.0.283 or 10.5.1.A.0.292 with a locked bootloader.

Xperia Z (phone) only. This means not Tablet Z, ZL, ZR, Z1, Z2 or any other Z series device. You could damage your device if you flash these files to anything but an Xperia Z.

Requirements:

Device already running 10.5.1.A.0.283 or 10.5.1.A.0.292
USB debugging enabled.
Flashtool and ADB drivers by DooMLoRD installed.
Flashtool by Androxyde already installed.
Easy Root by zxz0O0.

Downloads:

The kernels supplied here are for the Xperia Z only. Do not flash them to a ZL/ZR or any other device or you will soft brick your device.

Xperiaz_10.5.A.0.230_kernel_only.ftf - 7.38 MB
Mirror 1 - Mega
Mirror 2 - Mediafire

XperiaZ_10.5.1.A.0.283_kernel_only.ftf - 7.51 MB
Mirror 1 - Mega
Mirror 2 - Mediafire

XperiaZ_10.5.1.A.0.292_kernel_only.ftf - 7.51 MB
Mirror 1 - Mega
Mirror 2 - Mediafire

Instructions:

Follow all of the steps. There are no unnecessary parts to the guide.

1. Shut down your device.
2. Flash the Xperiaz_10.5.A.0.230_kernel_only.ftf using Flashtool. Basic Flashtool instructions here.
3. Boot your device. WiFi will not work. Do not worry, this will be restored later. Also, as this seems to be generating repeated questions, the firmware version in "About phone" will not change.
4. Root using one of these options:
a. Easy Root. This worked for me.
b. The root function of the latest Flashtool.
c. Enable mobile data and use towelroot.
5. Shutdown your device.
6. Depending on your firmware version, either flash:
XperiaZ_10.5.1.A.0.283_kernel_only.ftf
or
XperiaZ_10.5.1.A.0.292_kernel_only.ftf
using Flashtool.
7. Boot your device.
8. You may need to install SuperSU from the Play Store - Link
9. Open SuperSU and update binaries if prompted.

That's it. You should now be rooted.

Additional Information:

"The kernels are for C6602, but I have a C6603!". Don't worry about it. Both devices use identical kernels, therefore it doesn't make any difference.

Is your antivirus saying towelroot/Easy Root/Flashtool is a virus? See this post for an explanation.

As some are asking about this, XZDualRecovery works fine with this firmware version.

For those having trouble installing the Flashtool drivers and/or using Flashtool, see my guide here.

Disclaimer:

The steps and files used in this guide worked for me with no issues. However, use of this guide and any downloads provided are at your own risk.
I will accept no responsibility for anything that may go wrong or any damage to your device/data loss.

Credits:

Androxyde for Flashtool
zxz0O0 for Easy Root
Geohot for the original towelroot exploit
Chainfire for SuperSU
DooMLoRD for the Flashtool driver package.
If I have forgotten anyone, let me know and I'll add proper credits.

@kingvortex it works but root with flashtool because easy root didnt work for me (i have the drivers and the adb ) and if you continue not having wifi reboot until you have it :p
Thanks. Yes, you can use any method to root that works on 4.4.2. I just linked Easy Root because that's what worked for me. OP edited. :)
I unlock my bootloader then install new 10.5.1.A.0.283 . My question can I use this method for rooting my device or not?
Yes. :)

towelrot only work with wifi or data so if you have not them (due to change of kernel) use flashtool that use towelroot method offline
Thanks. I was unaware of that as I never used towelroot to root my device. Easy Root also uses the same CVE as towelroot, so should have worked. :)

Thanks! Finally worked after hours of trying to diagnose the "Processing of loader.sin finished with errors." problem.

Edit: I couldn't get EasyRoot to work on my PC for God knows what, I just used the towelroot.apk that was already on my phone to root. Still worked.

You're welcome. :)
What was the issue with loader.sin if I may ask?

I really have no idea. Reinstalled drivers so many times. Infact to update, I had to change my customization number as it wouldn't let me flash any FTF for the very same reason. Eventually, after 5 times reinstalling and retrying to flash, I switched to 32-bit Flashtool, reinstalled one last time and it gave me an error on the first try, on the 2nd try, it fixed itself. So I'm stumped.

The two kernels are no longer available for download. Any particular reason for this? It's not because there are problems with the files, I hope?

    Basically -
    1. Install Flashtool.
    2. Open Flashtool.
    3. Press the lightning bolt icon.
    4. Select "Flashmode".
    5. Browse to and select the 230 kernel only FTF file.
    6. Press "Flash".
    7. Power your phone off.
    8. Hold volume DOWN and connect the USB to the PC while still holding the volume down key. You can release the volume down key when flashing commences.
    9. Wait until the kernel is flashed and it says you can disconnect your device. Disconnect it and power it on.

Then run Easy Root and follow the on screen instructions.

When you're rooted, follow the instructions above and flash the 283 or 292 kernel only ftf, depending on your installed firmware version.

Please help me, I'm a noob here. My phone need to connected in flash mode or fastboot mode to flash this kernel? I have been read some tut like "how to flash a kernel on sony xperia device", all tut say it is in fastboot mode, but in fasboot mode by flash tool there is no option to choose .ftf format, only .sin, .img and .elf.:confused:

    1) Download kernels from link in OP, put them in firmware folder inside your flashtool folder.
    2) Turn off phone and start flashtool, click flash symbol and choose flashmode.
    3) Select the .230 kernel and flash it (don't wipe anything).
    4) Boot phone

    5) Go back to flashtool and click on the root symbol (key).
    6) Turn off phone and start flashtool, click flash symbol and choose flashmode.
    7) Select the .283 kernel and flash it (don't wipe anything).
    8) Boot phone.
