Yes, you can use any 283 FTF you have for the kernel. Every 283 release uses identical kernels. I just provided the kernel FTFs here for convenience.

I followed the instructions but for some reason my phone didn't start. It vibed but had to hold the back button until vibed three times and then restored the complete 4.4.4 firmware. Any ideas of what is wrong?

No idea. Redownload the kernels and try again.

Perfect, finally i dared to update from 4.2.2 to 4.4.4 and regain root,
sus upgrade to 4.4.4 then your guide to gain root again worked like a charm and kept my settings!

OT: (OTA update did not work, i had changed some settings but could not recall everything.. like systemui and freezing system apps and i'm sure more that i forgot.. hence the failing OTA.. SUS to the rescue.)
