after entering last command it says permission denied... where is the problem?
you meant the last command with adb to go in bootloader?
im not an expert but if you were able to use adb prior to this step, you can try going to booloader manually... power off and power on with volume back... it should pick up the legen.zip

Last command you are reffering to is "adb reboot bootloader". This command cannot return permission denied. Be precise dude!

Sent from my HTC Legend
i thought too but didnt want to assume anything :) coz im finished learning about update.zip in my sd card is the fakeflash from ROM Manager :)

btw, someone told me about your customized version, can i use it for the legend because it seems more updated than the one from ROM Manager ( which i have no idea why it would use an old version when from what i saw, there are 3.x versions ou there)

thansk

I have tried to do this manually but i had the same message... the file is older...

and about the last command "adb reboot bootloader" it gave me "permission denied"...

GSM/RADIO broken after rooting

I have finally rooted my legend. But I'm affraid that I have broken something.

I have installed the update-cm-7.0.3-Legend-signed rom.
after I have followed the rooting/downgrading steps from the following links.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725430
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894465
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746454

Now I can't connect to my carrier any more. I don't have any signal at all. WiFi is still working but I cannot make a phone call.

After reading all the step again I figured out that I has forgotten to put a backup back. In these instructions: "[GUIDE] How To Root HBOOT 1.01:"http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894465

Code:
adb shell
flash_image misc /sdcard/misc_backup.img
exit
I don't now if this can cause the problem but I don't have the backup anymore.

I hope that somebody has an idea what the problem could be and how I can solve it.

After going through all the 16 pages I am still not very clear of rooting Legend.

My Legend is : 1.01 With stock 2.2 India Firmware.

Steps :
1) How to Backup stock 2.2 India update in case I need to revert before even starting the root or downgrade process. All i have is the temp root from Visionary.

2) After I do a backup of current stock Rom , It is very unclear on how to

a) Downgrade to hboot + 2.1
b) Root 2.1
c) install custom roms.

Can some good Samaritan spend some 15 mins to write a step by step guide ?

Legend is the phone that really has very less "Step by Step" Guides for noobs ..:(

I'll try to see if i can remember...
1) For Step 1, you will need to install either ROM Manager which comes with CWM recovery tool (but i think this needs you to be rooted but it wont hurt trying to install it anyway without root and see if you can use the back up in ROM Manager..which is nothing but calling CWM and is straight forward) ...or you can use Blayo's version 3.0X in this forum and copy it as update.zip in your root of the SD. Reboot your phone in recovery, you will see the triangle, press Vol Up and Power to pick up the update.zip, this will give you the menu to back up your ROM

2) a)You dont need to download HBoot if you just want to root... im also on 1.01.
b) Here's my personal experience on how i did mine ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13754628&postcount=134
c) Once you did step 2b) ... any ROM installation is simple... and is nothing but running CWM Tool in recovery ( or if you have installed ROM Manager is has the CWM tool included) and choosing the ZIP file which may contain ROM, updates, Radio...etc onto your phone...

Like you i feared about missing a crucial step reading all the long process /guides but in the end, once you get around this fear and actually do the step by step as it is described, you should be ok.

Always do a back up though...99% of the time you can get back from the back up :) with the CWM installed and the back up installed on your SD card...

Thanks QkSi1ver . I did the procedure successfully.

My Steps:

1) Goldcard as given in first page
2) Root with visionary, use RUU update.exe to downgrade to 2.1.
3) Root as per step 3.

No mistakes and perfectly done..:) Happy.

Now trying Blayo, then will try ogo2 and finally cyanogen 7.1rc1 or nightly builds..

Thanks for this guide, worked out nicely.
Except for one thing:
When I try to boot into recovery (Via Power-VolumeDown), the phone loads into
the "!" screen.
What did I miss? Could this have to do with the fact that I didn't restore the original misc partition?

Thanks.

EDIT: I just restored the backup image of misc, but didn't help.
EDIT2: Just ran recovery-windows.bat but didn't help either. It showed the clockworkmod recovery, but any key press made it go back to the android recovery (like with Power and VolumeUp).

Hi,

I've got serious issues pushing the generated goldcard.img to the phone. After I type "adb push goldcard.img /data/local/", adb keeps telling "not found".

I put the goldcard.img the every folder I could imagine, to C:\, to C:\adb\platform-tools\.

So what can I do to make adb push that file?
I successful got the image, also I have su.

Thanks in advance

after 4 hours of reading threads....

With Sansa @Winterfell
posting this as it might help someone...
rooted an HTC legend a couple of weeks back for a friend. it was on hboot 1.01. on these steps from the unlockr, i got stumped:
6. Once you see the menu on the phone come back up, navigate to BOOTLOADER and push power, then navigate to RECOVERY using the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select and the phone should boot to the ! screen.
7. Now on the computer double click the “step2-windows.bat” file and wait for it to finish. (UPDATE 12.13.10 – You MUST have HTC Sync version 2.0.33 not a newer version for step2 to work. Please uninstall HTC Sync and download and install this version instead, unplug then plug your phone back in, then rerun step2-windows.bat).
running step2 gets me nada, even w/ those HTC sync install-shed. so i turned off the phone, copied BlaY0's custom recovery update to sd then did fake flash. it worked! note though that i was able to run step1 successfully first. step2, as in the modaco guide, i guess was only needed to run recovery from the Legend Rooting Tools.
