I used payload_dumper to extract boot images for OnePlus 8 and 8 pro Android 11 Stable ( https://www.xda-developers.com/down...receive-stable-android-11-oxygenos-11-update/ )

I also patched images for OnePlus 8 Pro using Magisk 21.0

I couldn't patch images for Oneplus 8 for some reason, you'll have to do this yourself.

Uploaded everything to my google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1s73KosZx2dUtgZn9vMNKwIlCFpQ2l_-8
@mauronofrio feel free to add those to your repository, those will be especially usable as there's no TWRP for Android 11 for our devices yet.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I tried booting with fastboot boot.img. It worked, so I flashed it, but I don't see magisk installed. Am I missing something?

whoops...i shouldn't copy links on my phone. my bad. here it is again:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-8-pro-t4083997

anyway, you can get out into fastboot menu by holding both volume keys and/or power button. once there, connect the phone to your computer, and run the bat file they mention and let it be until the phone restarts a few times. I didn't touch anything even when it entered stock recovery.

I didn't know there was a fastboot rom, will use it when I get stuck again. Many thanks

Hi everyone ! I don't know if it's been asked before but I'd like to know if I can use the "flash Magisk to inactive slot" method for rooting knowing that I'm going to update from OOS 10.5.12.IN11BA to OOS 11.0.1.1.IN11BA ? Can I do it that way or is it safer to manually extract the boot.img and patch it the way I've done it the first time ? Thank you in advance for your replies !

Edit : I finally decided to go with the old fashioned manual patching and flashing the boot.img (which is way safer as you can boot the patched boot image before you flash it) and it works like a charm !

OnePlus 8Pro gets bricked with Qualcomm Dump error While trying to Root

Hello,

i Have tried to follow many different Videos and it shows successful but wont Load TWRP and Magisk shows completed but the phone still does't get rooted.

Anything i do it whipes the memory completely and lands up in the qualcomm crash dump mode and need to use MSM to get it back up.

so far i have tired about 4 times and it just would't get rooted and this is a big nightmare i have had Oneplus 3, 3T, 5, 5T and now 8Pro, i was able to easily about to root the other phones but this 8Pro seems to be testing me

i need some real expert guidance would really appreciate if someone can provide actual working advice

Hi !

There are two ways to root that device that worked for me so far. One of them is this one and have always worked flawlessly. It needs, as a prerequisite, USB debugging to be toggled on :

- download payload dumper on your computer

- extract the payload.bin from the archive of the rom you're currently on

- put the payload in the folder named payload input

- run the payload application and wait until you see "boot" on the command prompt at least

- go to the payload output folder, copy the boot.img and paste it on your phone sdcard

- open Magisk Manager, press Install > Patch a file with Magisk, and select your boot.img

- copy and paste the patched file (which name, by default, is magisk_patched.img) in a folder of your computer

- press shift and right click in this folder and open a command prompt

- type "adb devices" just to make sure your device is recognized, if it is, type "adb reboot fastboot"

- once you're in fastboot mode, type "fastboot devices" to make sure that your phone is recognized and, if it is, type "fastboot boot magisk_patched.img" (you can skip that step but I don't recommend to do so as it enables you to make sure that your device will boot properly after flashing the patched boot.img)

- if you didn't skip the previous step and it worked, reboot into fastboot mode, make sure that your device is recognized again and then type "fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img"

- wait until flashing is done and then type "fastboot reboot"

You should be rooted properly at this point. Please excuse my English, as it's not my native language, I surely made some mistakes !

Have a good day and don't hesitate to tell me if this method worked for you !

That's kinda weird. I mean, I can't figure out how the heck a device running a Magisk patched boot.img could not be rooted. When you open the Magisk Manager app, Magisk appears not to be installed ?

Edit : I updated this morning to OOS 11.0.2.2.IN11BA and rooted using the method I explained but I had a little issue ! The first time I booted magisk_patched.img, it booted properly but Magisk Manager was showing Magisk as uninstalled. After booting the magisk patched image again, all was fine. Then I flashed it on the boot partition and it booted properly rooted. Try to boot the Magisk Patched boot image again, it worked for me so it could possibly work for you too !

So today with some testers i managed to make root on OnePlus 8 Pro, I want to specify that 95% of the work was done by @topjohnwu (Magisk creator).

I will explain 2 different guides:

    First Root Guide:

This guide is for a specific rom version, so you will need to use a specific patched boot.img

    - Download the patched_boot.img
    - Reboot your device in bootloader-fastboot mode
    - Flash the patched_boot.img in the boot partition:
    Code:
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
replace "boot.img" with the patched_boot.img path

    - Reboot the device
    - Install Magisk Manager

    Second Root Guide:

This guide is more generic than the first one, you should use this one if you are unable to find a specific patched boot.img

    - Download a patched_boot.img (you should try with the latest one)
    - Reboot your device in bootloader-fastboot mode
    - Boot the patched_boot.img:
    Code:
    fastboot boot boot.img
replace "boot.img" with the patched_boot.img path

    - Reboot the device
    - Install Magisk Manager
    - Click on Install, then direct install and wait the end of the process
    - Reboot the device

    TIPS:

You can get the stock boot images from the fastboot rom: Fastboot ROMs

HOW TO UPDATE a ROM and KEEP ROOT:
Before all Disable all magisk modules
Be sure to use the latest stable Magisk
You can update a stock rom from phone settings with local upgrade:
    - Update the Rom WITHOUT REBOOT;
    - Open Magisk Manager;
    - In Magisk Manager, click on Install/Install/Direct Install;
    - Again in Magisk Manager, click on Install/Install/Inactive Slot;
    - Reboot.

    I want to specify somethings:
    Codename:
    OnePlus 8: instantnoodle
    OnePlus 8 Pro: instantnoodlep

How can I do if I'm already in 10.5.5 without root? Is there any way to downgrade to 10.5.4 and then upgrade again to keep root?

Wait 10 minutes and the new patched boot.img will be up

Do you know if it passes SafteyNet with Magisk Hide enabled? Assuming not since Google now uses hardware signatures vs spoofable software ones.

    Sure does

Could someone please pull either their 10.5.6 boot image or the 10.5.6 magisk patched boot image? I accidentally fastboot flash booted the 10.5.5 boot image and now I have no wifi, etc and I don’t have windows for MSM :(
I have "pulled" 10.5.6 IN11BA both stock & patched, if you wish...
