Hi,

I am having some issues that I can't quite figure out.
Here's what I did:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) Gain S-Off
3) Update firmware to 3.33

At this point when I start into the bootloader I see:
Firmware 3.33
Pyramid PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100
RADIO-11.24A.3504.31_M
OpnADSP-v05.6.0.2226.00.0418
eMMC-boot
Jan 13 2012 17:33:34

At this point though, I can't seem to be able to boot into recovery.
If I do, the phone reboots into a "normal" boot.
I suppose this is an issue due to the update of the firmware? I notice that when I go into HBOOT it looks for files P...IMG.zip which it does not find since I renamed it.

I re-installed fw 3.33 again and followed (again) the instructions to the letter: let it update everything, then remove the SD card and only then press the power button. Perhaps there's a better way?

Thanks in advance for the help ...

Thanks rzr86.
Indeed the problem was that the recovery, for some reason, was not installed (or not installed properly).
I had used the "all in one" tool which seemed quite handy (it probably is: I must have done something wrong) but clearly it did not work for me.
So I "manually" re-flashed clockworkmod recovery and now all is well ...
I managed to install JB 4.2.2 last night and so far so good (I'm keeping an eye of power drain ...)

Anyway, thank you for the help: it is appreciated.

Just touched up the thread a bit. I haven't been logged in for a while and didn't know that this thread had got so many views! Because of that I tidied it up a little, making it a bit more clear. :)

I think I've got a bit of a chicken or egg situation here.
Following this guide it tells you to do the S-OFF procedure, but in it it clearly tells you you must be rooted first.
Furthermore, I have't been able to find instructions how to get root with the 1.27 bootloader that I have.
Could anyone help?

did you unlocked the bootloader from htcdev site?
if yes then you have to be rooted in order to use that guide for S-OFF
flash a recovery
then flash this zip from recovery
http://download.chainfire.eu/315/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip
it will give you root
ater that follow the guide for S-OFF

if you haven't done anything already use this guide to S-OFF
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2247319
it doesn't require root

Hey Guys.
Due to the lack of simple NOOB Guides I've decided to make one for all the noobs out there.
(Including me. The amount of help I needed was unimaginable!)
This is the way I gained root and S-OFF. I thought I would help others by telling them my own method.
I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR A BRICKED PHONE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

STEP 1 - Unlocking the Bootloader.

Visit - www.htcdev.com and pick the Sensation that YOU have.
Here's how you can find out which Sensation you have.
Sensation 4G (T-Mobile) will have a 'customised' T-Mobile case saying 'T-Mobile' in the corner.
Sensation - Vodafone - Will have come with 'branded' firmware. (Vodafone symbol comes up when booting up phone.) Another way of spotting is having random apps. e.g. Music Store.
Sensation (Normal) - Pretty self-explanatory. No symbol when starting up phone, no apps just plain and simple.
REMEMBER TO CHECK USB DEBUGGING

Once you have chosen your correct phone follow the steps for unlocking the bootloader.
When you have completed all the steps on www.htcdev.com you will notice that when you hold 'power' and 'volume down' it says:
***UNLOCKED***
Which obviously means you have unlocked the bootloader.

STEP 2 - Gaining 'S-OFF'

Follow juopunutbear's guide on gaining S-OFF here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614617
I know - using a paperclip? Trust me, worth every bit of time. If it doesn't work then try and try again.

When you've gained 'S-OFF' you should notice that when you hold 'power' and 'volume down' it says:
***UNLOCKED***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT: 1.27.0000 S-OFF

Which is great!

STEP 3 - Flashing a new recovery

REMEMBER TO CHECK USB DEBUGGING

The way I flashed a new recovery was extremely quick and easy:
Download this AMAZING Tool-Kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497404
All credit goes to hansoon2000!

Power on your phone.
Check you have USB DEBUGGING Enabled.
Plug your phone into your computer.
Make sure you have drivers enabled. (Unlocking the bootloader should of made you download 'HTC SYNC' for the drivers.)
UN-INSTALL HTC SYNC.
Unplug your phone from the usb cable so it enables you to power off.
Hold 'power' and 'volume down' and press power on 'FASTBOOT'
You've entered FASTBOOT.
Plug the USB Cable back into the phone.
Do not touch anything on the phone.
Go onto your computer and open up the HTC ALL IN ONE KIT.
In the top right-hand corner you will see a list of recoveries.
Click 4-EXT.
I've done a picture to help in attachments.
Your phone will go through numerous screens etc. but don't worry! It's flashing your new recovery! So long stock recovery!
When it has finished remember to check if it has worked!
When it has then congrats! Now onto root...

STEP 4 - Gaining Root

REMEMBER TO CHECK USB DEBUGGING

Use the All-in-One-Kit that you downloaded earlier for flashing the recovery to gain root. Read the instructions below.

Assuming you're doing this straight after the last step then you will not need to enter fastboot again, etc.
If not read through the last step again until OPENING THE HTC ALL IN ONE KIT.
This time in the bottom right hand corner you should see perm-root.
SEE ATTACHMENTS FOR A PICTURE.
Click it and let the program install Superuser and gain root access.

You should see SuperUser installed!

If all goes well then Congrats! You have successfully rooted and S-OFF'd your phone.
Now! Who wants a nice new ROM!?

Check this thread by walidhazem for a list of every ROM being developed for the Sensation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613295

Hit thanks if I helped, this post took a lot of time and effort!
thanks for the share

I performed step 1 and step 2.. gained S-OFF and even my phone shows it is unlocked. But I can't perform step 3 using hasoon's all in one kit. Whenever I try to flash recovery and click on the button in the top right corner of hasoon's kit, my command prompt pops out and says that "it is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

What is the problem here? Am I missing something?
Thanks a lot. I rooted my phone with the procedure provided in that link. Thanks for providing it:good: :good:

Why isnt this guide marked as outdated?? It isnt necessary anymore for quite a while now to use htcdev and therefore throw away your warranty in order to gain S-OFF.

Hey there.

I followed the instuctions in the startpost. Step 1 worked fine, Step 2 I couldn't do because it required a root, what would be Step 4.

So I did Step 3, but the Toolkit only said "waiting for device". So I stopped it again.
Now, after turning on my Sensation, I am stuck in the loadingscreen that pops up after entering my PIN. It just says loading, then jumps to black screen, and says loading again.
I can enter Fastboot and do a factory reset, but the problem persists.

Can anybody please help me? I fear I completely ****ed it up and lost my phone -.-

Thanks for the answer -

When I type this in cmd
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
the only thing that happens is
Code:
< waiting for device >
.
When I connect the cable when I try to boot the phone normally, I can see that USB-Debugging is enabled. But it seems it does not connect properly :/
