hmmm.... didn't work for me. CWM looks for update.zip so i renamed it as such. installed and rebooted to CWMR, no touch menu. same old blue colored menu. install su-binary, stuck at unmounting /system = not rooted.
Sounds like you are doing it wrong.. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON the STOCK ICS firmware, I'm not really sure of it will work on the Chinese ICS firmware, If you flashed that you might have been quite screwed.

The first recovery you boot to is the Standard Android Recovery mode, You are supposed to place the files in external storage and from the Stock Recovery, choose Apply Update from external Storage.

Once that is done you should be booted to Touch CWM recovery and from now you have to use the touchscreen to navigate around. Then choose install zip from SDCARD and install the SU-Busybox_installer.zip.. That should give you root

Done

So how do i get to the choose external storage? Do i have to press some key combo. Because when you go to Vol.down+home+power you get to recovery but there is no install from external storage. I can only go to download mode via vol.up?
Please help?

Just rooted my Note using this simple guide! No Triangle! Many THX!!!

(Just one note: I had to move the su installer to internal SD, because external was not available in CWM, but no prob!)

Turn phone off..

Hold Volume Up + Menu + Power

Now when Samsung Note screen appears let go of power

Couple more seconds and you'll be in the stock recovery mode

It generally should work.

Well, As long as you can get the CWM in temporary via Stock recovery.. The rooting process is just a update.zip away, as long as you install the SU zip file from anywhere it should work fine.

Thanks a lot I was stressing but that couldn't have been easier.

Now that I'm rooted what can I do? Like can I freeze the useless crapware? If so someone please help me as I screwed my other phone doing so. Just a list of things to freeze please.

Thanks!

Hi TS,

Noob here.. I just bought my N7000 with Build no. - Gingerbread.DXLA1, Android version 2.3.6, Baseband version N7000DXKL2, Kernel version 2.6.35.7-N7000DXLA1-CL886914.

I just want to upgrade to ICS stock with root. My questions are:

1. Where can I get the official ICS firmware that can be flashed via Odin without increasing the binary counter and avoiding the triangle? I have seen many links here actually but with different sizes but I am not sure which one I can use. I want to confirm if I can just flash it via Odin with my current firmware and kernel without bricking? =)

2. After flashing via step 1, can I just follow your guide in the OP and then I will have root? I already downloaded the three attached files.

Thanks in advance! =)

Hi again,

I found this torrent from one of the threads here and I am downloading it right now. Just want to confirm again if I can use this via Odin flash without binary count?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590284

Thanks again!

I got just one problem with this method, everytime i go into cwm revory and try to install via zip the screen blackouts for one second and again i'm in the cwm menu but nothing has happend. Somehow it looks like that notmather which point i use from the menu always the screen blacks out for one second and again just the main menu appears ?

anyone similar problems or has a solution for this ?

This is wrong, it is Volume Up + Home + Power

Can't mount the external storage when I try, I guess the files need to be on an external sd card, not the internal USB storage?

Well as so often my problem is solved , cause this is the cwm touch i had to use the menu by hand and not by buttons :)

what is the difference between rooting with first method and rooting it using the cf-root lpy kernel

will this surely keep the offical LPY rom safe after rooting with the first method
