I think only a few people knows that ..maybe you should write your advice in big red, very useful.[emoji4]
Noob question : what is the way to completely return to stock (stock recovery..) in order to return the device if needed.

Maybe I should change my name to GOOGLE and spend all my time creating guides for those that can't be bothered to educate themselves?

To return to stock simply flash the stock firmware with ODIN and factory reset.

Correct, install twrp before mods then backup.
I just tried @ashyx method but it seems not to work :

I applied everything in "step 2" section at the beginning at the thread.

I installed twrp with Odin , following all steps....all seemed to work in Odin, the device rebooted...[emoji4]

I haven't rooted my device. [emoji121]

Now I wanted to reboot in recovery twrp when rebooting the device, in order to make a backup of my device...

But I haven't found the twrp recovery...[emoji87] only a recovery that doesn't show a lot of options, maybe the stock recovery....[emoji22]

Have I missed something?

Why? :what:
It states in the first post to read the original post with a link to it.
If you decide not to read it who's error is that?
Well, for me is not a question of finding a guilty part, or whos fault is if someone forgets to read a link, but when i see people asking how to return to original state when knox is already flagged..guess they didnt read.
Dont take it the wrong way, i've rooted all my devices after unbox, and i dont care about knox really, but as much information visible, more helpfull they are, and less questions will the thread have.

Again, very nice post and i thanked all the work, its not a negative remark, just a suggestion!! :good:

permissive kernel

Hi, just rooted my first android device. TabS2 710, still on 5.0.2.
All went well. Am considering upgrading to 5.1.1 and root again.
But after having read this thread two times: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/development/kernel-permissive-lollipop-5-1-1-kernel-t3205831
I am still not sure whether or not it is sufficient to flash the permissive kernel with Odin, or if I need to use TWRP to flash the image. In the beginning of the thread there is mention of a broker tar file, which appears to have been re-uploaded by ashyx.
But in this thread here ashyx also mentions TWRP as part of the process, but the OP in the permissive kernel thread does not mention that step.

So the question: is it sufficient to just flash the permissive kernel with Odin, then the autoroot ROM ?

Although I haven't rooted my device it's my understanding that once you root a device it stars rooted so I don't believe you'd need to run autoroot again. It seems as though you just need to update the kernel and go to 5.1.1

I'd always recommend a custom recovery so it's probably a good idea to install twrp anyway.

The tar file is fixed. Flash the boot.img with odin then root.
Use twrp to make a FULL backup BEFORE proceeding.

Thanks that's very useful.
Follow-up question which I can't really find a consensus answer to: are these two steps all it takes to get the 5.1.1 operating system in place, or do I need to flash a 5.1.1 stock first?
(I realise this is somewhat noobish, but am coming from iOS where things clearly are rather different).

You need to have 5.1.1 firmware installed first.
If you are currently on 5.0.2 you can use the root method in the dev section.

how to show the "show input method" slider on the tab s2?

Hello everyone, it' my first time in this forum. Thx alot to all contributors. I have a question concerning the tab s2 : how to show the slider letting us choose whether enabling the onscreen keyboard when plugging an external keyboard?

I have a logitech g600 mouse and this device is identified as an external keyboard by the tablet. but i would really like to use both the onscreen keyboard and the mouse. the problem is i don't see the option to do so. I ended up with rooting the tablet and flashing a custom rom, but i still dont have the option. please Help :(

thx alot.
