All went well

I just finished the root process. What a cool feeling!

Note: I didn't need to do Section 3.
When I finished installing TWRP and did the Reboot/System steps, it displayed a message that I didn't have SuperSU installed and asked if I wanted to simply reboot or install SuperSU. I swiped to install, which it did. After a reboot, it was rooted (verified using "Root Checker" by Joey Krim) and away I went. I was not prompted for the location of the SuperSU zip file that I had copied to the "Downloads" folder; TWRP did the needed actions and everything went well.

I had a notification a moment later that the SuperSU binary needed to be updated, which I did. It rebooted, I verified root again and, again, everything was fine.

I'm still smiling 15 minutes later!

Thanks for all of your fantastic actions to make this possible. :)

flash
QUARK_VERIZON_5.1_SU4TL-49_cid2_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
with RSD Lite or Fastboot.exe I recomend RSD Lite 6.2.4
I just updated the links for QUARK_VERIZON_5.1_SU4TL-49_cid2_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip

---------- Post added at 12:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------

flashing with RSD lite will wipe data, unless you edit the .xml file

RSD Lite is the official tool from Motorola
Only Official Motorola Firmware can be flashed with RSD Lite

so once sunshine unlocks the bootloader i should be able to put in my metropcs sim thats active in another phone and it should work?
unlocking the bootloader is entirely different from band/carrier unlocking

My guess is you will need to flash the
XT1250 Moto Maxx or XT1250 Moto Maxx (Int) firmware
but I'm not positive

If MetroPCS (now a subsidiary of T-Mobile) allows you to Bring Your Own Phone, then yes. It will work.

However, of T-Mobile LTE bands 2,4,12 you will only get 2,4.

See this similar post about the Droid Turbo 2 on T-Mobile. For some reason many Verizon users don't know Verizon can no longer SIM lock LTE phones, by order of the FCC.

how did you get the turbo 2 to work on tmobile?
All Verizon LTE phones are network unlocked by order of the FCC ever since 2011, 2012. It was an "agreement" Verizon was forced to sign to get more LTE spectrum.

http://www.idownloadblog.com/2012/09/24/verizon-iphone-5-unlocked/

http://www.verizon.com/about/consumer-safety/device-unlocking-policy
VERIZON: We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier.
It's old news. As long as a Verizon phone has the necessary LTE bands, it will work on any other LTE carrier.

Droid Turbo 2 has LTE bands 2,3,4,7,13. T-Mobile uses LTE bands 2,4,12. So, he's getting LTE bands 2,4.

Well, yes you won't get T-mobile's VoLTE and stuff like that, which I'm sure they restrict to their own branded phones.

I think you need LTE band 12 for that, and you don't have LTE band 12. All I keep seeing is a bunch of hand-wringing over LTE band 12, so it seems to be important.

Sounds right, not that it matters to @mac.os.x now but Unlocking the bootloader was not necessary

Partly because Verizon took a few years to comply
Several LTE Droid Devices were not band unlocked
