I recently bought this phone and all I thought was why can't I do it the same way I did it with my previous phone hence this question :) i should have thought about that :D
The Verizon Quark variant (XT1254) is bootloader locked by demand of Verizon. The other Moto Quarks (XT1250, XT1225) are not. For those, you can get free bootloader unlock code from Motorola.

  • One of them, the U.S. Moto XT1250 is the clone of the Droid Turbo in every way -- same bands, same FCC ID -- except it does NOT have locked down bootloader (and it will even run on Verizon with a Verizon SIM card). Until Sunshine came along, the XT1250 was the "dev" version of the Droid Turbo XT1254. ;)
  • The other, the "international" XT1225, has more LTE and HSPA bands than the Droid Turbo XT1254. (I still own two of those.)

It's all in the research, before you buy.

Blame Verizon for locking down the bootloader. Thank Sunshine team for providing a solution -- since you did buy this phone.

Hello guys,
I bought verizon motorola droid turbo xt1254 running on marshmallow from ebay like 6 months ago. It had some battery issues like dendrite (turning off at 27% etc.) However thats just old history. The problem is when i saw a post on xda saying that xt254 can be upgraded using sunshine. I downloaded it, didnt really do much with it, but once it shut down due to battery being 0%, it stuck in bootloop. Now the background is i had no recovery cwm/twrp installed, the bootloader is locked (as it says Device is LOCKED), and all i can do is flashing files. so right now im in this situation, and tried couple of time flashing some firmwares using fastboot, and all the time i get 2/3 files of the firmware flashed, the rest says this error message:

(bootloader) Invalid signed image (bootloader) Preflash validation failed

So as far as i concern is the fact that due to not having unlocked bootloader, it is not letting me install the "wrong" version of firmware. SO can anyone tell me which firmware should i use, and the link from where i get the perfect firmware i need to download? OR if i am wrong, what i am supposed to do now?

I cant upload picture (??) so this is all the info of my bootloader

Mobile Specs:

BL: moto-apq8084-70.96 )sha-b624508
Baseband: MDM9625_41.51.07.22.04R QUARK-CUST
Serial#: ZX1F24DNVV
CPU: APQ8084 ES1.1
Device is locked. Status COde: 0

ANy kind of help is so much appreciated. Thanks

You need to simply follow the instructions for removing initroot to solve the bootloop problem. You don't need to flash anything.

If you have -5-5, you should not have performed section 0. "If it says MCG24.251-5-5, you need to take an extra step to unlock your bootloader. I'll explain later. For now, just skip to section 1 of this guide." Section 0 is for flashing MCG24.251-5, which is an older firmware version that cannot be flashed over your newer version on a locked bootloader. You will need to repair your phone by reflashing MCG24.251-5-5. You can find that here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/dr...-official-stock-firmware-6-0-1-mcg24-t3569334

Once you've unbricked your phone, come back to this guide and continue from section 1.

I'm in the process of doing this however would this let me successfully install TWRP afterwards as it wouldn't in the first place when it was still fairly a new stock rom on MCG24.251-5-5... Followed everything to the T had issues getting into TWRP and couldn't get back into stock unless running the rooting process from fastboot first.... I wonder if I would fare better results updating to the latest via ota? Sunshine did unlock the bootloader tho, just haven't had much luck getting TWRP running just the constant boot loop and unlocked bootloader warning, any input would be greatly appreciated so I can flash away and tinker with other roms. Once you are unlocked you need to remove the temproot per the temproot thread to get rid of the bootloops. Then you can flash twrp, etc.

To get rid of the bootloader unlock warning, you need to flash a replacement bootloader graphic.

Any of these will get rid of the bootloader warning. Choice or ADB or TWRP flashable replacement graphics.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72047838&postcount=86

But first get rid of your temp root and install TWRP. That's more important.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can do whatever you want. If you want to downgrade to -5 and upgrade to -5-5 via OTA, knock yourself out. Did you enter the command described in section 1 step 9 exactly? The root method causes boot loops, and only performing this step will stop them no matter what you flash.

Awesome that's great to know! I've always tried to avoid downgrading cause that usually bricks **** left and right but ha as long ya got a good recovery and unlocked bootloader all is solid! I'm so glad they got this root method the last Droid Turbo I had was updated too far! I wasn't uninstalling cause that guide said not to while another user just said uninstall it and be able to flash TWRP. I believe I skipped that part cause the guide said not to uninstall, or was that another guide? I've been reading too many guides and thinking too hard lately SMH I could get past the boot loop into system just fine by rerunning the rooting app from a laptop and still couldn't flash TWRP even tho Sunshine had already unlocked the bootloader? Cause of that rooting exploit right? After I uninstalled I could flash TWRP just fine. That boot unlocked logo is annoying af I'm so ready to replace it :) I'd love the original Droid animation tho that'd be hard to find I betcha Thanks again!

Not as hard as you might think. https://forum.xda-developers.com/dr...ck-droid-turbo-boot-animation-sounds-t3268310

Nevermind. I thought you said original Droid Turbo. Yeah, I'm not sure where to get the OG Droid animation.

Root and unlock bootloader

Hi,
First, excuse me because my english isn't very good. I'm Colombian.

However, i have a question...please help me with tolerance.
My phone is a Droid Turbo XT1254 (I would not be here if not so).
Version Android 6.0.1 --> I updated through "Software Update Assistant" of Verizon. Through OTA always showed error [24.81.5.en.US]. From 5.1 SU4TL-44 (Sunshine didn't can work despite of have SU4TL-44)
Finally i have in this moment --->Number of compilation [MCG24.251-5-5] with version of configuration [I15.MOT.XT1254.0] (just in case)
Patch of security of Android [1-jan-2017]
Version of band base [MDM9625_41.51.07.22.04R QUARK_CUST]
Version of system [24.91.5.quark_verizon.verizon.en.US]

Ok, the question is if this procedure will work in my case.

Thank you for your time and knowledge
