Its a blessing

Thank you for the guide and especially keeping it up to date. When you started it, i did my nook and its still smooth as butter.

Now i use it for a friends nook and see a lot of updates. I gonna update myself. Tried Android 4.0 and hope that the same development intensity is applied as it was for android Gingerbread.

Keep up the good work! ;)

Button fixed

I installed CM9 to see how it looks, looks and 'feeling' great by the way, and when I went back to [ROM][CM7.2-RC0] MiRaGe - KANG 02102012 the nook U physical home button at the bottom won't do anything. Is there a setting I'm missing or did going back and forth mess something up?
Fixed the issue. A reboot fix the button not working, but then FCs came up all over the place. A simple wipe and reload didn't do the job, I had to wipe data\factory reset, wipe cache, then reload and all is working great now. Love the ROM.

Are you trying to root your stock Nook software or install CM? This thread is for installing CM.

error while flashing

Hi

I am unable to flash CWM 3.2.0.1 or the rom. I get a error (status 7). I have read on other threads that this might be due to the version of CWM i have (5.x)

How can i revert back to 3.2.01

Thanks

Scenario: I dropped my nook color last week and cracked the bezel and the volume buttons no longer worked. I purchased the extended warranty on my nook so called and got a replacement sent to me.

I have had my original nook for over a year. Rooted it as soon as I got it and have flashed numerous roms to emmc. I have also done this for 3 other nooks so am pretty familiar with the routine. I have used eyeballer's image and instructions successfully every time.

So, I got my replacement nook today. Popped in my sd card into the card reader (NOT the internal sd reader). Ran Win32diskimager as administrator and wrote eyeballer's 3.2.0.1 image to the sd card. Added zipped rom and gapps.

Placed the sd card in my nook. Pressed and held the power button. The screen with the skulls appeared and 'loading' flashed for a second or two, then disappeared. Nothing more. Pressed and held power button again. Again, 'loading' appeared, then disappeared and nothing else happened, no matter how long I held down or didn't hold down the power key.

Formatted sd card and wrote image, etc. again. Tried redownloading image. Used another sd card. Tried with TWRP. No luck. Nook still won't boot into recovery.

Using sandisk class 4 8 GB and 16 GB cards. They both work fine in my phone and the broken nook.

Next, formatted and wrote the image for racks11479 dual boot image for SD card. Again, the new nook color will not boot.

I used this boot from sd successfully with my broken nook for the past few days.

I read a post a few pages back on this thread about some nooks not being able to root. How would I know if I have one of them? Serial # starts with 2010.

And then, what do I tell B & N? 'Oh, by the way, the nook you sent me is unacceptable because it won't root?'

Sorry for the long post, but have I missed a step? Does anyone have suggestions or solutions for me? Help is very much appreciated.

Update: Well, after hours and hours of frustration and trial and error, it all boils down to the fact that I just needed to hold down power button until loading appeared. After loading disappeared, hold down power button again. Loading reappears again and disappears. Hold down power button again and recovery screen appears. Wierd!

"MyNookColor" & "SDCard have disappeared from WinXP Explorer

I've spent the last several weeks trying different configurations for my nookcolor and I especially liked the stock/cm7/cm9 on my SanDisk 32Gb micro card. I upgraded to b&n 1.4.1. At that point, the "NookColor" and "SDCard" disappeared from my Windows XP explorer whenever I tried to side-load media into the NookColor internal 5gb storage.
So, I reformatted the card and set the stock back to B&N 1.2 only (no cm7/cm9) but the 5Gb internal storage ("MyNookColor" & "SDCard") still doesn't appear in Windows XP explorer, so I cannot side load media into the NookColor 5Gb internal storage.
The only reason I want to use the NookColor 1.2 5Gb internal storage is to use the nook reader for some reference books. The other ereaders on the market are pretty bad compared to B&N. So, is there a way that I can make the NC 1.2 5Gb internal storage accessible to the NookColor reader now and when I reinstall cm7/cm9?
Or is this situation one that everyone accepts (the disappearance of the NC 5Gb internal storage)?
This is an outstanding forum.

It sounds like you are triple booting with stock on emmc and CM7 and CM9 on SD. If you are not it really does not matter. It depends on which system you have booted to as to how the media shows up. If you are booted to CM9, the media shows up as "Nook Color" in Windows Explorer toward the bottom of the left pane. It should have EMMC and SDCARD under it. That is called MTP and only CM9 uses it. If you are on CM7, two drives with drive letters show in WE. One is EMMC and one is SDCARD. It's been a while since have used stock, but I seem to remember it is the same as CM7. Triple booting works well and both emmc and sdcard should show in Windows in all systems.

Thank you very much for your reply! Yes, initially, I was dual-booting from NC stock to CM7. Then I decided to see what the fuss about CM9 was all about and that blew me away! Man! Exceptional! I want to get back to that configuration as soon as I can access the internal 5Gb on the NookColor so that I can store my reference books there and use the NC B&N reader for those. As it is, the NookColor shows up in XP Pro Device Manager as two entries under Disk drives "B&N Ebook Disk USB Device"; and, in XP explorer, the are listed as two "Removable Disk (drive letter here:)".
The first's properties are listed as "Type: Removable Disk; File system: RAW"; and the second's properties are: "Type: Removable Disk; File system: Unknown".
Thus, I can't sideload media into the NookColor using the USB cable and my PC.
I'd sure appreciate a clue. Thanks!

With CM7, two "removable disks" always show up in Windows XP under Explorer after plugging in the cable. But, until they are activated by CM7, they are non-functional. By activated, I mean there is a screen that pops up in CM7 that has a button that says "Turn on USB storage". Until that button is pressed, the drives in Windows do nothing. After pressing, the "removable drive" label is replaced with emmc and sdcard. Pressing the button unmounts those drives in CM7 and mounts them in Windows. I believe B&N is the same way. Like I said, it's been a long time since I used stock, but I seem to remember you had to go to settings somewhere in B&N to activate the drives in Windows. Until then the drives in Windows are non-functional.

Edit: With CM9, everything is automatic. You just plug in and they show and work. If you rebuild your CM9 SD and boot to that, the EMMC media folder should show up in Windows (along with your sdcard) when you plug in the cable. Download your stuff (books, etc.) there and then reboot back to stock and your stuff will be there.

I noticed that the image for CWM is 1GB, does this mean I have to use a 1GB SD Card? I just purchased a refurbished nook color on eBay from B&N is there a way to tell If I received the updated partition version if the nook doesn't come in its original box?

You can burn that image to any size card as long as it's at least 1GB or larger. You can size it back to its native size after you have finished installing CM. Just look at the size of the media partition in stock. If 1GB (new) or 5GB (old). I would say chances are since it has been refurbished, it is probably the new partition.

I have an original Nook Color. (bought first month it came out) anyways ... over the past year and 1/2 or so ? I been running all CM's 7 and 9 ... MIUI's whatever.

Last week I tried eyeballers method as stated. I screwed it up big time. My fault 100% not his. Long story short I had to re-write my boot partition via adb (YUK)
but finally after 20+ working hours, I got stock 1.0.1 running now on my emmc.

Can I just start over now from the top of eyeballers OP or do I need to re-root or update from 1.0.1 to something else ?.

Thanks

Start from the top, but I'm not sure why it took your 20 hrs to fix it.. You could just flash the stock zip that I linked in my epilogue and it would have restored.. Just for future reference :)

Hello eyeballer -
Well the thing is for some reason no matter what I did I could not get it to boot from sdcard for CWM to activate. It would just skip to emmc (uSD) and look for boot partition there which was completely screwed up. Not sure how I managed that. I don't know, maybe you are correct, and I sure will try again now : )

Ill post my results.

Thanks

When I go through settings I see device storage is 5 gb this means I have the old partition right?
