Sorry for the million noobish questions, but looking at the instructions it is just putting a Rooted Rom right on top of the current system. I'd like to be able to do a Nandroid before flashing any Rom's.
well then follow the root guide in section 5, do a nandroid backup, then proceed to flash whatever you want.

If you think I have a attitude then your taking my posts out of context...my apologies.
It's all good man, I know my questions are kind of uber-noobish, it's just that I'm so used to the methods and terminology that my Dinc uses that a lot of this for the Fascinate is so foreign - I'm just trying to figure out what I need and what steps to follow.

*fist bump* :)

I know exactly where your coming from being I started with a htc eris! samsung is way different, but I don't think I could switch to anything else at this point. Once you get use to how everything works I think you will feel the same way. If you have any further questions, dont hesitate to ask! GL!!:)

Did I do something wrong?

I don't know if I'm just being stupid, but I followed your instructions EXACTLY. I read it 3 times just to make sure I had everything correct and it does not work. I placed the powerwash onto my sd card, used odin to put that tar file on my phone, wiped data, wiped cache, went to advanced wiped the dalvik cache, installed the zip file from my sd card and it said it did, I reboot and its right back to the cwm voodoo lagfix menu. It just seems to do a loop. I'm freaking out right now because I thought this would be the easiest way, it looked simple enough as I am pretty good with following directions but it's not working! Help please?

Yeah, I select "reboot system now" it just brings me right back to where I just was in voodoo.
go into voodoo and select disable lagfix and then reboot

edit* what rom were you currently on? or if stock, what version? You may need to go down to section 6 and odin back to stock, then repeat section 1

I was on stock 2.1 I'm verizon prepaid, and they would not push me an ota update. All I really wanted was 2.2 and I got there so I'm okay for right now because I followed this and at least have a phone for today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391

Later tonight I will try your instructions again. Hopefully I don't screw it up this time. Does lagfix need to be disabled then? It was enabled when I was going through the process the first time.

no lagfix should not have to disabled if your flashing a voodoo kernel. Also section 6 of my guide will put you on stock 2.2 ed05 froyo, thats why I suggested going to that first. your problem is you cant flash a froyo rom in cwm over the top of eclair. If you would of posted that in the beginning, I could of told you that. Details make a world of difference when diagnosing a problem!! I updated my op so it specifies this. I didnt think anybody out there runs eclair anymore lulz.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't more clear, I was just in a panic mode because I thought I completely messed up my phone. I was only on 2.1 still because I was always afraid of roms & screwing up my phone completely but saw your guide and decided to give it a try. Plus I'm a noob on top of it lol. I'm sure there are more people like me that still had 2.1, so maybe it's good that I brought that to your attention :) I feel much better now that I have 2.2 but it would be nice to have bing gone! I'm about to try again, if I have any problems I will let you know. Thanks for your help.

Alright Droidstyle, I got rooted finally, thanks fir the write up. I tried to flash the cm7 nightly, and it had a problem. I first went in to cwm recovery that was flashed in you're rooting instructions and wiped data, cache, etc. When I tried to flash cm7 from the sdcard, a bunch off script/code scrolled down the screen and it just stopped. I'd like to check out cm7 and miui, but I suspect I'm not doing something right. Is it something with the recovery you think?

Thanks again fir all you're help.

Edit: never mind, I'm going to go through section three of your guide, I bet that is all I need to do.

So why flash the ed01 eclair package? What's the newest radio these days anyways? Isn't there an EC09 package?
ed01 is froyo... The whole point of flashing a stock package first is to ensure there are no problems when going to a mtd rom such as cm7. Eh03 is the newest radio...yes there is a ec09 package.
