Tried doing the ICS/JB install tutorial on here and all went well, and as instructed until the very end when I went to flash a ROM. I tried this with AOKP, and PACMAN and had the same result both times, when trying from the beginning. My issues is that when I attempt to "Install zip from SD card" and hit yes, it says "Opening Package" or something like that, and then the screen goes black, then I see the "Samsung" logo, then I see "Galaxy S" and right below it "cyanogenmod" and then it proceeds to boot into CWM-based Recovery v6.0.3.3 and it won't mount the SD card. I don't remember ever flashing this recovery... I used the one provided in the tutorial (cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar). I attempted reformatting the SD card once I had gone through the tutorial, but with no luck. I tried searching this thread, but I wasn't too sure what to put for search terms and kind of came up dry.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
All good and normal so far...
v6.0.3.3 is the recovery included with the ROM you are flashing,,
You did everything right up to that point,,,, what the instructions are missing is that you need to flash the ROM up to 3 times...
1st time puts you into the new recovery of the ROM
2nd well pop up during install with an error about partitions (Its possible though it may fully go through flash install)..
3rd flash well fully install.
Continue on with a gapps package and reboot, etc

Wow thanks for the quick reply! I was attempting to flash the ROM again, but as I stated it tells me that it is unable to mound the SD card, even when I attempt to manually. It is a class 10 32 GB SD Card. Should I try it with the 16 GB one that came with the phone?

I just threw the ROM on the original 16 GB sd card that came with it, and it is now mounting the SD card! So I attempted to install the ROM, and it began to install and then I get this:

E: Error in /sdcard/aokp_fascinatemtd_unofficial_2013-07-04.zip
(Status 0)
Installation Aborted.

Hmmm wonder why I would get a status 0. Any idea? Should I post in the AOKP Thread or try a different ROM?

Edit: Tried flashing the Pacman 4.3 ROM, and got the same error message. :(

Thanks for the great write-up

Just wanted to say thanks for this awesome write-up about flashing ROM's. I was able to successfully flash Helly Bean 4.2.2 on my fassy last night with only one issue that was my fault. I was able to use the knowledge in this thread to help me get back on track. Appreciate it all!

@DanielWEWO
Start back over with odin the eh03 following all the steps again.
That worked! Guess it was a bad SD card :( It works fine in my thunderbolt recovery :/ Oh well! Thanks!!!

Edit: so I really wanted to get this 32gig card working. Is there any way I can get it working? I tried putting it in and formatting in the OS but it says "Bad SD card" and it works fine on my thunderbolt on ICS and on the fascinate on stock GB. I don't want to buy a new SD card unless I have to. Maybe there is a way to format and repartition it properly?

I recommend using sdformatter v4 on your PC

Original Equipment Manufacturer. It needs to be an OEM Samsung cable. It should say Samsung on the connector.

Have you tried a different usb port? It used to be a common problem. As far as having to have an OEM cable, not necessary but wouldn't hurt.

Could somebody tell me if cwm4 fixed for cm7 is still the correct recovery or is there a new recovery that is required to flash 4.4?
I would personally flash the cwm4 fixed for cm7 (this might be a slightly updated version of it: http://cmw.cmfs.me/aries/sch-i500/root/cwm4-bml-i500.tar), then flash the newest official CM10.1, then reboot recovery and flash this kernel: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291679682 and then flash cm11 or whatever 4.4 ROMs are around
