Hello, I'm having some trouble on win 7 . when i type in cmd adb devices i get adb is not recognized as a internal or external command. i installed the sdk manager in c\Android , installed java and i changed the environment variables to, path c:\Android-sdk-windows etc.... per the instructions. but i did something wrong since it's not working...i could use some help.... Thanks...
Did you open up sdk manager in the folder you put sdk in and then install the two files?

I also have been trying to get a logcat on my galaxy s3 and I have been having problems with drivers and getting ADB to recognize my phone, but I finally got it to recognize it, however when I go to create the logcat via adb logcat > logcat.txt I also get the "access is denied" error. I just created a logcat on my girlfriends computer no problem. Well I got adb working on my pc and wanted to try to create a logcat and I got this error and googled it and found this thread, wondering if anyone figured out what is causing this.

Whoever facing the problem of "access is denied " try this
right click android-sdk -properties - Security- Edit the users permission and give Full Control
It worked for me .. I think it is not having administrator permissions while saving the log in the system . .. this is for windows 7.

Blah, thanks for the guide. I have followed your instructions to the T. I also have android debugging on. After completing the installation and then when I attempt to have command prompt to find my device I get the following - "adb is not recognized as an internal or external command". I see that a couple of other have had this as well. I have researched and tried different solutions, but nothing has worked. Perhaps I will try the whole process over again. I am on windows 7. If you need anything more from me to help you give me some advice of what I can do to fix the problem, let me know. I hope you or someone could possibly help me out. I realize fully the importance of logcats. I could do it through an app on the market, but I prefer this way instead if I can get it working. Thanks alot. Regards.

I didn't include the part for needing the HTC drivers for adb to work. I think you can just download it from HTC Site and then install it.

I haven't done logcats on windows since I'm more on linux

Let me know if that fixes it or not

I saw this guide on how to find out the logcat, and noticed it really requires some work if you don't already have the development environment setup on your machine. Thought this might help some:
There are some apps on the Play store which directly lets you see the logcat and directly copy/save/share that. I am just using catlog. Much easier than fighting all these access denied errors IMO.

thanks for the guide but just wanted to let you know a few things have changed:

The export paths for linux are different:

the base folder name for the SDK is now: android-sdk-linux-x86 (or -64 - depending on your build of your computer).

Also, of note in the SDK, there is a text file named 'adb_has_moved.txt' which states:

Code:
The adb tool has moved to platform-tools/

If you don't see this directory in your SDK,
launch the SDK and AVD Manager (execute the android tool)
and install "Android SDK Platform-tools"

Please also update your PATH environment variable to
include the platform-tools/ directory, so you can
execute adb from any location.
For ubuntu users, I found that the following works (I did not test what you wrote, because I found another guide first - and why fix something that's not broken :p

Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}="2080", MODE="0666"
I've tried it on ubuntu 12.04, and another user here says it works on 10.10 - http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/23163-need-help-for-adb-connection-on-ubuntu/#entry194667

Good point :)
I'm tired of people reporting issues and there's no logcat
Now they have no excuse
If I type "adb logcat > logcat.txt" nothing happens
If i type "adb logcat > c:\logcat.txt" it says access denied

This happened after I flashed the custom rom ViperS C2 5.1.0 on my HTC sensation xe. I'm having wifi problems even asfter flashing the kernel usiing the vernom flasher so i want to paste logcat.txt into pastebin so the developer can help me out. Anyway to get around this? I'm a noob :(
