Hi,

Wire trick is the only way to s-off if you have hboot 1.27 or higher.
You can still install custom ROMS , root, and stay s-on.
Look HERE

if you are on ICS (android 4.x) you cant do soff without using wire trick.
your only hope is HTC DEV unlock and 4EXT recovery to flash roms while being SON

Huh... I just got my phone (Evo 3D GSM) back from the service center (they replaced the screen and the usb port) and tried doing the wire trick. I found the ics-windows jb tools from my external hdd and tried it on the same machine I used to do the wire trick for the first time (i did it on the first time that day), but well, yeah, it didn't go so well this time... It backed stuff up, rebooted to the arrow screen and then it was just endlessly waiting for the device... (hmm, still no device) adb didn't work etc. I took off the battery, tried a few more times, didn't work. From bootloader restored the backups and ran the controlbear exe again. Still didn't work. Went back to stock, did htc-dev unlock, installed/flashed everything needed (recovery, superuser, busybox) and tried it again. Still the same error. Ran the controlbear again - still the same error, tried a few more tries and again ended up returning to stock. Windows 8 x86 is the OS. I honestly have no idea why it isn't working now since it was just fine when i first got the phone and s offed it. I don't think I have changed much of the software on that pc and therefore it should have worked... ADB is totally usable but not when the phone boots to the arrow screen, fastboot is also working fine. Btw, when it boots to the arrow screen it doesn't show up as "My HTC" as it normally would under the device manager, it shows up as "HTC Android Device" and it's listed under the disk drives where I think it should not be. When I try to update the driver it says the driver is up to date, and well, I guess it's normal... Now the question is, why does it show up as a disk drive/usb mass storage device and not as an android device? What should I do? And btw, that pc has some really major issues with running ubuntu as it has an old intel gma 500 gpu which ain't supported at all I guess and the other laptop I have has only usb 3.0 ports - no usb 2.0 controllers or anything and it's also running windows 8 (but x64). I tried it on that pc as well, and you know what? Exactly the same symptoms whatever drivers I installed. Does anyone have any suggestions? :D :D

Hi.

I am trying to get S-Off to my HTC Sensation with hboot 1.27.00 from RMA and ended up in this thread.

I would need the Control bear for Windows 8 64-bit and ICS phone to proceed with the tutorial.

Thanks a lot in advance and keep up the good work!

If you are on gingerbread use revolutionary soff that's much much easier than controlbear
Check revolutionary.io site

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That's the problem. I cant get revolutionary to soff the phone. Tried many times but failed at the end. My hboot is 1.17. Even i cannot flash recovery image in the fastboot and i cant flash any update through recovery, iy said cant open cache/recovrry/command then close n reboot with error oem00. Have searched the net but havent got any solution yet. Now i want try this method to see it can be soff or not.
