[Guide]Just Root. 2.3.4 No Downgrade[]
First off I would like to say Hello. Ive been lurking here for a few years now and have decided to contribute to the community. I hope everyone will enjoy this guide to a soft root.
This is my second time around with the evo shift. My first one during some experimental tests with engineering hboot and my San Disk nand block just so happened to melt to the board. so I thought long and hard about this how can we safely root our shifts without the dangerous downgrade. Im mean really why do we need s-off. we don't. there ways around flashing kernels with s-on. Well here we go. By trial and error I think I worked out all the corks to a rooted 2.3.4 Stock ROM With S-on and a Locked boot loader.......but wait here the kicker I still have the ability to modify the system and data partitions with a Locked S-ON hboot. But there is one stimulation. You can only alter the protected file system while in TWRP Recovery. Messing with root files while the device is booted. will cause sense to crash loop. Forcing the user to reboot recovery and wipe cache partition. Its a small drawback. But hey al least I didn't have downgrade and flash hboot eng...thus potentially melting my phone. I could care less about s-off. I just want the benefits of root.
So any ways. I take no credit for the scripts, tools, hacks, and software that i am about to present. I'm only taking credit for how I used them in a combination to achieve my goal.
I am at no fault if you boot loop, brick, or corrupt your data. Nobody forced you to root your phone.
This guide is for those on operating complete 100% stock rom. And would prefer to only have root with a stock.
1. This is not a prerequisite i'm advising to do.
its your choice if you want to make a backup go ahead and do so.
If you don't and you loose all your personal data on your device don't come after me for you poor decision.
2. Make sure your stock, s-on, locked bootloader, and running android 2.3.4.
Go to settings and look at software info.
You should be Android Version 2.2.4
With Software Version 2.77.651.8 710RD
If not, stop now.

3. Make sure you got a full battery charge.
Enable USB debuging under applications, development.
Check mark unknown sources under applications.
UNCHECK fastboot under battery.
4. Did you make a backup?
This step will wipe your data.
Go here and download HTC Bootloader Unlock http://www.kingoapp.com/htc-bootloader-unlock.htm
Install it and follow there instructions to unlock your device.
Congrats you are now unlocked.
5. Downlod openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-speedy.img from http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/5
Make sure yoru md5 hash matches.
Rename it to recovery.img
Download and Install Android Ultimate Toolbox Pro from this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886562
Open the program and look over at the box called OS management and click the button thats says Flash recovery.
Find your recovery.img open it.
A dialogue box should pop up saying "Flashed Recovery Successful"
7. Download DooMLoRD'sSuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip over here on this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155864
Make sure you place it somewhere on your sdcard where you will be able to eaisly find it.
Power off your phone.
Reboot Into Recovery.
Hold Vol Down Key press Power Key.
Hboot menus shoud appear.
Your boot loader should be locked again.
Flashing recovery did that.
Press the Vol Down Key to highlight the word Recovery
Press the power key.
TWRP recovery should now be booted.
Press Install.
Navigate to where you saved DooMLoRD'sSuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip, and select it.
Swipe to install.
Press the back button to main menu.
Press Wipe
Press Advanced Wipe
Check only Cache and make sure all others are NOT checked marked.
Swipe to execute
Navigate back to main menu.
Press Reboot and press System
Congrats you are now Rooted, S-on, And a locked bootloader.
This worked for me on two different Evo Shifts.
One with hardware version 0004 and one with 0005
Also Hboot difference was SPEEDY XE SHIP S-ON and the other was SPEEDY XF SHIP S-ON
