What option is set under "Default USB configuration" in Developer Settings?
The default USB configuration is "No data transfer". But after I turned on the USB debugging option in the developer settings and there was a USB connection between the computer and the phone, I turned this option off and the connection between the computer and the phone was still there when I plugged the cable back in. Interesting thing, because when I booted from the "OP8_Global_11.0.8.8.Stock.img" file (which I had previously converted with Magisk) for testing purposes, I plugged the phone into the computer for the first time, but the option to connect to the computer via USB did not appear.

It's possible but it's a convoluted process and you need root already.

What model and ROM are you using?
Model: IN2013
ROM: Oxygen OS 11.0.8.8.IN21AA

I even thought of temporarily booting from OP8_Global_11.0.8.8.Magisk_23001.img file to have root access and then using terminal emulator on the phone to download the boot.img file, then patch and test it and install it with ADB.

Yep, that will work. 👍

@djmcnz

Where do you get the patched image for the Global ROM seeing that the full ROM is always the last to be uploaded on the OP servers? I would like to learn how to extract from an updated device and patch (if possible).

Hello guys,
I am on 11.0.8.8 global version and want to root with magisk.
Either i need to dowloand 11.0.8.8 global full ota rom and take boot.img and patch it?
Or 11.0.7.7 can also be used?
Currently i am unable to find the boot.img file for global version on 11.0.8.8.
Any help would be appreciated.

As I said in my PM, you can use the files I've posted in this thread for 1.1.0.8.8.

This might not be the forum to ask this, but I thought I'd try anyway. If another forum deals with this please point me in the right direction.

My Oneplus8 on many occasions when speaking on the phone, the person on the other end hears me. But on my end what I hear is choppy and unintelligible. It is not my ISP or network connection. When I ask that person to call me back on my lady's Onplus 6 it works perfectly. We are both using the same ISP (T-Mobile) and both are connected to the router and T-Mobile's towers for VoWiFi and VoLTE.

Does anyone have any clue as to what's happening here, or must I run out and get myself another phone?

Thanks

I'm not sure what the problem is @humb13 but this is a pretty long and generic thread, your post might not get the attention it needs. Perhaps try posting in the Q&A thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/oneplus-8-questions-answers.10353/ but make sure to have a look around first to see if anybody else has posted a similar question.

Make sure you're really clear about the conditions under which you experience these symptoms, like cell only, WiFi calling, mixed etc, signal strength etc, etc.

You shouldn't need to replace the phone, the OP8 is a great device.

Thanks for the link and for your advice. I'll get on that forum and see if maybe somebody might know.

I agree. In fact that last thing I want at this point is to upgrade.

OP8 OOS 11.0.8.8 Global w/Root (Magisk) + Stock

Please update to the latest version of Magisk (23001 at the time of this post) and reboot before you download the OTA.

These files are kernel images to load (flash) over existing partitions using fastboot. If you have fastboot working you can use these files to update your ROM. These files are not the full ROM, you need that (v11.0.8.8) installed before the files below will be useful to you.

Stock Kernel: OP8_Global_11.0.8.8.Stock.img
Stock MD5: 513cf4592ab9bb1bbe5fe396bacc4776

Patched (Magisk 23001) Kernel: OP8_Global_11.0.8.8.Magisk_23001.img
Patched (Magisk 23001) MD5: d241e7cfdf2eed689f08095dd102dd28

All tested and verified on an IN2010.

Remember, you should always test the kernel before you flash it:

Code:
test (temp): fastboot boot <kernel_name>.img
flash (perm): fastboot flash boot <kernel_name>.img
thank you thank you thank you thank you

OP8 OOS 11.0.9.9 Global w/Root (Magisk) + Stock

EDIT 25/10: Magisk v23010 has been released and a lot has changed (including the removal of MagiskHide and the official Magisk repo). I do NOT recommend upgrading to this version of Magisk at this time. It will be best to wait for some days/weeks to pass to observe how this new version works in the wild. I will not be releasing a patched kernel for Magisk v23010 at this time.

Please update to the latest (recommended) version of Magisk (23001 at the time of this post) and reboot before you download the OTA.

These files are kernel images to load (flash) over existing partitions using fastboot. If you have fastboot working you can use these files to update your ROM. These files are not the full ROM, you need that (v11.0.9.9) installed before the files below will be useful to you.

Patched (Magisk 23001) MD5: 85b13e35d5348853e06d634a557b7530
