Hi! I lost root after last update

I can't boot the patch imaged, it always says command failed, drivers and cable should be ok

How can I solve?
Hi, phone is detected in fastboot mode? If so, check the correct syntax of the command and whether the boot file is for your phone model and in the required version?

This is what i have

Code:
PS C:\platform-tools> .\fastboot devices
9abdb20d fastboot
PS C:\platform-tools> .\fastboot boot .\magisk_C64_BA_Boot.img
Sending 'boot.img' (196608 KB) OKAY [ 4.675s]
Booting FAILED (remote: 'Unrecognized command boot')
fastboot: error: Command failed

Doesn't the bootloader need to be unlocked for this to work? I believe so.....

I am having the exact same issue as you. I was rooted on .48 aa but after I updated to .64 I can't get root to work, I've tri d the included patched boot image (just booting it and flashing it) and it shows the same thing as yours and I've tried patching the boot imagine with the magisk app then booting/flashing it and th same thing, it will boot but won't have root.

Try the running the command when the phone is in Bootloader mode rather than Fastboot mode. That worked for me.

Guys, phone needs to be booted to bootloader mode "adb reboot bootloader" then "fastboot boot magisk_patched.img" or whatever name you have. Once booted, open magisk app and tap on install and the option to direct install should be available.. remember, bootloader mode not fastbootd mode.....

Oh, thank you thousand times! Those drivers totally did work. Everything is in order now.

@Steve0007 Maybe you could add the link to your OP so people can find them. I spent several hours trying to solve the problem, perhaps we could save someone else from this type of anguish.
GR4
how did you install these drivers? That google drive directory simply contains 2 zip files and no executable file.

Try this, I assume you are looking for the Qualcomm USB drivers...

thank you
I've done this before with other phones, I'm an IT guy, and I'm computer saavy. ButI cant get that dos prompt to recognize my phone with adb devices.

What the hell am I doing wrong? Or what else can I try? I'm not sure if I have the drivers or not. I don't see anything that stands out in the Windows device manager.
And yes, I'm using the original OP cable, or the one that was shipped with the phone that's read and white.

EDIT - ok, I see the phone in adb devices, but now the fastboot oem unlock command just says "waiting for devices"
Ok. So the steps are listed out of order
1. type adb reboot bootloader
2. type fastboot oem unlock
3. use volume down to select Unlock bootloader

Yep, OOS 12 was really bad. I'll try the process following the steps of the first post to retain my magisk. I'll let you know how it goes just to share my experience

Thanks for the support everyone. Let you know soon
A12 was perfectly fine for me and thousands other users.
Just because some people had a bad flash noone can generalize that the OS was bad for everyone.

In any case, u know the steps now to upgrade to A13, so it shouldn't be an issue for u.

When you're already rooted and want to keep root then the following steps are recommended:
Disable all your Magisk modules and restart.
Install the Local Updater APK for Android 13.
Start the installation process via local updater.
After finishing the installation don't reboot.
Go back to Magisk and click the Magisk installation button (it's the top one).
Then choose the installation to the inactive slot after ota.
After this process is finished, reboot and you're done. Root should've been kept.

Patch Stock Boot Image via Magisk and Flash it using Fastboot

    Download Links:

Steps to Flash Magisk Patched Boot Image using Fastboot

    • Make sure to transfer the boot.img file to the phone’s internal storage. (above original boot posted)
    • Next, make sure to install the latest Magisk Manager app on your handset.
    • Open the ‘Magisk Manager’ app > Hit ‘Install’ then choose ‘Install’ again.
    patch-boot-image-oneplus-nord.png

Once done, tap on ‘Select and Patch a File’ > Head over to the storage and select the extracted stock boot.img file that you’ve moved earlier.
    • After selecting the stock boot.img file, the Magisk Manager will automatically patch it on your device.
    • Then magisk_patched.img file will be saved on your device automatically. [Check the ‘Download’ folder of the internal storage]
    • Now, it’s important to transfer the magisk_patched.img file to your PC where you’ve installed ADB & Fastboot. [Inside the ADB & Fastboot folder]
    • Next, you’ll have to connect your device to the PC via a USB cable.
    • Head over to the installed ADB & Fastboot folder (Platform Tools folder) > Type cmd on the address bar and hit Enter to open Command Prompt. [If prompted by UAC, click on Yes to run it as administrator]
    cmd-platform-tools.png

    • Now, run the following command line on the Command Prompt window to check whether the device is properly detected in fastboot or not:
    fastboot devices
    • Then run the following command to easily boot your Android device into the Fastboot (Bootloader) mode:
    fastboot reboot bootloader
    • Next, run the following command to flash the patched boot image file on your handset:
    fastboot boot boot magisk_patched.img
    • Finally, run the command below to normally restart your device into the system:
    fastboot reboot
    • Wait for the device to boot into the system.
    • Once booted go to Magisk application and select Direct Install
    • Reboot & Enjoy!
Finally, you can open the Magisk Manager app to check whether the root is enabled or not. Make sure to check for the latest Magisk updates from the application itself.

How to install oos 13 with root?

It's ok uninstall magisk and restore boot
    install oos 13
    Magisk install into slot inactive
    Right?
    I don't think so
If you use the O+ internal updater, installing OOS13 will reboot the device itself at the end of the process, so you'll have to temp boot to a prepatched magisk boot.img to re root your device.

What I did is what I call the good old way :

Download the full.zip for your LE device using Oxygen Updater : it will donwload the whole package at the root of the storage.
Before doing anything, and depending on what magsik module you are using : disable every Magisk Module then reboot your device
Once done install a dedicated APK that will be called My application2 once installeed ( https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/OnePlus_tools.apk => this file have a .apk.zip extension : you have to rename the package, deleting the .zip extension to let it end with .apk)
Launch My Application 2 using local upgrade, it will directly shows you the full zip package
At the end of the process DO NOT REBOOT
Go to Magisk Manager => Flash Magisk to the inactive slot and reboot

Et voila, enable every magisk modules, reboot, you're done
    4
You seem to have forgotten one step in the updating. If you were already rooted with Magisk, after downloading the zip and before flashing it, you have to use "Uninstall Magisk" button in the Magisk app and in the next screen choose 'Restore Image'. Afterwards you flash the zip and then open Magisk and install to inactive slot before booting.

I have been following the same steps that I posted earlier for updating and today I updated to F16 without any issues.

Did as you suggested, coming from A12 ( LE2123_C64 ) and worked like a charm; root ok, SafetyNet ok with Universal SafetyNet Fix + Shamiko.

    Thanks again!

    STEPS to root your device:

I recommand to update first your device with all OTA available using Settings/updates before unlocking & rooting it.

Root your Oneplus 9 Pro (with Bootloader already unlocked)

Step 1 - Booting temporarily root

    1. Connect your phone to your pc and boot it into fastboot mode. You can leave it connected throughout this guide.

    2. First, enter the following command in the PowerShell/Terminal window to ensure that your PC can communicate with the phone over the fastboot interface.

    "fastboot devices"
    OnePlus-8T-Rooting-fastboot-devices-command.jpg
The command should return your phone’s unique ID. In case it doesn’t, then make sure that you have the required USB drivers installed and restart your PC. You can also use TOOL ALL IN ONE, not officially updated to Oneplus 9 Pro but once install go to Others options and go to Install drivers.

    3. Code once in fastboot mode:
"fastboot boot magisk_boot.img" (use the "magisk_boot.img" from the above zip file)
Change to the exact name "magisk_boot.img" of the boot that has been patched in the above zip file
    "fastboot reboot"

    OnePlus-8T-Rooting-Flash-Magisk-Patched-Boot-Image.jpg

You could flash this boot.img, but it's safer to temporarily boot from it without overwriting your existing image in case anything went wrong along the way. The effect is that you still get root access without modifying your device, and then you can use the much safer Magisk direct install option, which has some safeguards in place.

By booting with the patched image, you now have temporary root access. To make it permanent open Magisk app.

    a. Select the Install option.
    b. Use Direct Install (Recommended) to root your internal boot.img

    OnePlus-8T-Install-Magisk-Inactive-Slot.jpg

Step 2 - Reboot and your device is now rooted !

Unlock the Bootloader and Root the OnePlus 9 Pro

Step 1 – Enable OEM unlocking

You need to enable OEM unlocking, which can be done by enabling the developer settings on your device. To do so, go to Settings > About phone and repeatedly tap Build number. Developer options will then be added to your system settings, where you can then enable OEM unlocking.

    TMO-Unlock-1.png

Step 2 – Unlock your phone
Set up adb, reboot into your bootloader, and run the following command. Yes, it’s really that simple!

    "fastboot oem unlock"
You can reboot into the bootloader by switching on USB debugging, setting up adb and fastboot and typing “adb reboot bootloader”. Alternatively, you can hold volume down and the power button to boot up your device. USB debugging is also located under the developer options.

Unlocking the bootloader wipes your device :

Step 3 - Booting temporarily root

    1. Connect your phone to your pc and boot it into fastboot mode. You can leave it connected throughout this guide.

    2. First, enter the following command in the PowerShell/Terminal window to ensure that your PC can communicate with the phone over the fastboot interface.

    "fastboot devices"

    Step 4 - Install magisk

Install the latest Magisk apk on your phone. Open it and:

    a. Select the Install option.
    b. Use Direct Install (Recommended) to root your internal boot.img

    OnePlus-8T-Install-Magisk-Inactive-Slot.jpg

Step 5 - Reboot and your device is now rooted !

    Keep Root and OTA updates

How to update OTA and KEEP ROOT
It is advised to disable or even uninstall all magisk modules to be safe!
How: go to Magisk application/modules/disable &/or uninstall

Option 1: With full OTA Access (BA/DA) :

Step 1 - Get & install the full OTA zip file

    1. Go to System-Update or update get the OTA using Oxygen Updater

    2. Tap OK when the message that you are rooted appears

    3. Tap "Download and install" or local update if OTA from Oxygen Updater
For Android 12, install this APK "OPLocalUpdate_For_Android12.apk": https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=7161016148664848215

    4. Wait until you are prompted to reboot - DO NOT REBOOT NOW!

    OnePlus-8T-Install-OTA-After-Rooting.jpg

    5. Open Magisk Application

    a. Select the Install option.
    b. Use Install to inactive slot

    OnePlus-8T-Install-Magisk-Inactive-Slot.jpg

    OnePlus-8T-Reboot-Phone-After-Magisk-Installation.jpg

Step 2 - Reboot and enjoy your device still rooted with latest OTA installed !

Option 2 : Booting temporarily root

For some reason, Since C63 OTA, some users have reported that on the option 1, the system rebooted byt itself after the OTA update which does not give then the option to install Magisk to the inactive slot after OTA.
If that happens, no worry just perform the Step 1 - Booting temporarily root described on "Root your Oneplus 9 Pro (with Bootloader already unlocked) Section.

Option 3: with incremental OTA Access (AA) :

Step 1 - Get back your original boot image

    1. open the Magisk Manager application, select “Uninstall”, and choose the “Restore Images” option. Magisk will restore your phone’s stock boot image that was backed up during the rooting process.

    OnePlus-8T-Restore-Images-Magisk-Manager.jpg

    2. Now go to “Settings” → “System” → “System updates” and select “Download and Install Now” to install the OxygenOS OTA update on your rooted OnePlus 9 Pro

    OnePlus-8T-Install-OTA-After-Rooting.jpg

    3. Open Magisk Manager

    a. Select the Install option.
    b. Use Install to inactive slot

Step 2 - Reboot and enjoy your device still rooted with latest OTA installed !

    Troubleshooting questions :

Before reporting any trouble, follow the steps below in order to have GooglePlay certified, keep L1 Widevine & pass CTS :

    Step 1 - Magisk Settings

    1. Once rooted, in Magisk setting, select MagiskHide and Systemless host

    2. In MagiskHide select GMS, Netflix, Google Store & any application you may find sensitive to Magisk detection
For Netflix, go to Settings, Appplications & select Netflix:
    a-force stop the app
    b-clear cache and storage
    c-hide the App in magisk
d-restart phone to recovery and clear cache
If you can't install/update Netflix install the latest Netflix from apkmirror manually (like any other apk file)

    Screenshot_20210519-212423.jpg

Hide everything under Google play services and store.:
    Screenshot_20210529-020855_2.jpg

    3. Reboot

    Step 2 - Clear caches

Clear caches of Google Play Service & Play Store
Go to Settings, Applications & select Google Play Service, delete data

    Step 4 - Safetynet Fix

    Install Safetynet Fix Magisk Module

Step 5 - Look at the following guide

    Follow this Guide

    Phone Bricked ? :

Five options (ranked from the easiest to tougher method):

Option 1 - Reboot to Safe mode & remove Magisk modules

    Option A : Safe Mode
    1. Hold power until it goes off
    2. Boot and wait for the bootloader warning
    3. Hold vol up and down until boot animation
    4. Once it's booted just reboot again and you're done
Now on boot all magisk modules are disabled

Option B : thru adb command
    1. Code with phone connected with USB debugging on (from developpers options):
    "adb wait-for-device shell magisk --remove-modules"
    2. reboot

Option 2 - Get back the original boot.img

If your device can go to fastboot mode:
Flash back the original boot.img (w/o magisk) and reboot
    Code once in fastboot mode:
"fastboot flash Original_boot.img" (use the "Original_boot.img" from the above zip file)
Change to the exact name "Original_boot.img" of the boot that has been posted in the above zip file
    "fastboot reboot"

Option 3 - Flash back full OTA file

If you can still go to Settings:
Flash back the OTA RUU full package and reboot

Option 4 - Change the active slot

If your device can go to fastboot mode:
    "fastboot getvar current-slot"
This will tell you what (corrupted) slot you are currently booting from (either a or b).

Then just change to the other slot with the following command:
    "fastboot --set-active=a"
    or
    "fastboot --set-active=b"
    Then reboot with the command:
    "fastboot reboot"

Option 5 - Wipe data in Recovery mode or fastboot command

Option A : If your device can still go to Recovery mode (ie thru fastboot mode: "fastboot reboot recovery")
From Recovery Wipe data and reboot

    Option B :
    Code once in fastboot mode:
    "fastboot- w"

    Option 6 - MSM

If none of the above works then go for MSM tool

Option 1 to 4 would normally not alter your personal data, applications and own set-up

How can I downgrade my device to OxygenOS 11?:

Doing so will WIPE YOUR DATA, you are strongly advised to back it up before.
Sideload local update APK : https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/OPLocalUpdate_For_Android12.apk

Download one of the following downgrade files to go back to OxygenOS 11.2.8.8 (please take great care in selecting the region meant for your device) and move it to the root of your internal storage (where Downloads and DCIM directories are). Those files have been shared by OnePlus on previously linked OB 1 thread, and are directly linked here only for convenience.

Launch the local update app and select the downgrade package you previously moved to the root of your device internal storage. If the downgrade package does not show up in the local update app, ensure its extension ends with .zip. Delete if .jar is there. Click on “Restart” once prompted.

Damn, nothing for Global yet eh...
You can download the EU stock boot.img that's in this thread (2nd post), download the latest magisk canary manager and patch that boot.img. Then you can temporarily gain root by rebooting to bootloader and booting that image ex. "fastboot boot boot.img"( your boot.img name will vary after patching). After the phone boots you can just go into magisk manager and do a "direct install" and that will patch your global boot.img to gain permanent root.

This seems way too easy. After reading several attempts and resulting soft bricks and whatnot, you're saying:
Uninstall magisk (or just the app?)
(Won't this leave you unrooted and unable to install magisk alpha?)
    Install magisk alpha
    Reboot
    Local update to a12
    Don't reboot
Install magisk (alpha) to inactive slot after ota
    Reboot

I'm holding off on a12 until a kernal or two are available, bugs are worked out, and a crystal clear update method.
    My method:

-Uninstall magisk stable app (leave root active).
    -Install magisk alpha app.
-Check the app if root is detected, otherwise reboot.
    -Local upgrade. Don't reboot!
-Open Magisk alpha app and install root to inactive slot.
    -Now Reboot.

This is what I did, and worked.
    European model.
