I tried this upgrading to Oreo method on my mate 8 by replacing the firmware files with mate 8 version.
After the device rebooted itself, it entered the TWRP recovery again and the following error messages were found.
E: unknown command [errno]
Updater process ended with ERROR: 9
Error installing zip file '/external_sd/oreoupgrade/update.zip'
does anyone have any idea on how to fix it?

I have a rooted unlocked mate 10. TWRP install of the zip file went fine, until it gave an
"updater process ended with error 2"
and it died.
Any ideas what to do?
-t
-it depends what update did you did.
-Nougat to OREO or just OREO update?
-what install files did you downloaded (i mean the one for Nougat-oreo, or oreo-oreo or the version for emmc storage devices?
-where in the proces in post 1 did this happened?
-have you tried to power the phone to recovery mode? If yes what recovery do you have?

''Serious problems''

ok. i think i made bad become worse. I tried updating from android 7 (i was o nC632B110) to android 8 with twrp using the oreoupgrade.zip method. Now it boots me into erecovery saying ''Serious problems occured when the phone boot, you are recommended to do factory data reset
NOTE: user data will be wiped after recovery''
And then i have two options: 1. Factory data reset (recommended) 2. Download latest version and recovery

And did you downloaded the right oreo update files (for C632?).
You can try to reflash your TWRP backup.

Works just fine, I've tried method #2 to update my phone with unlocked bootloader and custom kernel from B376 to B379.

Only thing I noticed after the successful update and after flashing TWRP and Proto Kernel again, is that the phone app did not work anymore so no calls were able to be made, same for incoming calls. I re-applied the update method and everything is fine again. Seems like from now on I have to live without a custom kernel... :crying:

Phone: VTR-L09 8.0.0.379(C432)

Be carefull, if you try to rollback to a previous version, you could hard brick your phone.
B380 is anti-rollback, don't know about B379, but you'll not be able to use custom kernel without issues.

Ok thanks for the info. To everyone who is interested, referring to the link in your post: B379 also seems to be anti-rollback so calls are definitely not working with B379 using custom kernels

@Jannomag I updated my VTR-L29C432 to version 381, which was approved by ff, but settings now indicate Build Number: 8.0.0.046(0LAO). This is clearly not correct as the security patch is 5 Nov 2018 and all European apps have been installed (e.g. emergency broadcast). The device works without issues. Any tips?

Yes, if the OS isn't giving you troubles or annoying bugs, don't mess with it, leave it as it is.
If you want to downgrade, do it in a safe way, use HiSuite9, rollback to nougat and update to your favourite version.

@M1chiel My script just tells the recovery mode which files it has to use for install. If there's any problem with the firmware, it can't be related to my script.
Possible reasons for your problem:
- Wrong links provided by FF
- Wrong or corrupted files from Huawei
- Wrong files provided for the script, maybe old files you copied accidentally instead of the new ones

0LAO is an indicator for wrong firmware files or failed rebrand. You can try @cologne83 's solution https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75159200&postcount=4 (instead of STF-L09, look for VTR-L[x]9).
Root is needed for this. Read the whole threat if you didn't rooted your phone.
I would recommend the TWRP by @espaciosalter20.
I also uploaded my /cust and /version/special_cust directory, packed as zip, here (also VTR-L29C432B381)

You are a hero! The version/special_cust was different from yours. All ok now. Thanks!

I figured out wat went wrong. I flashed the update_full_vtr-l09_hw_eu instead of the 29

Thanks for the warning. Unfortunately the downgrade didn't work. Hisuite downloaded the Nougat VTR-L29 C432, but the installation failed. I managed to repair the cust info (see previous post) and I wonder if it the downgrade would work now. But I will not try that at the moment, since all is fine now.
