This method can preserve user data and root is still existence after factory reset.
Only tested mate 10 ALP-AL00C00.

SuperSU: Thanks to @Chainfire
AI Function: Thanks to Kangvip Rom

A. Unlock bootloader.
B. In fastboot run "mate10_root.bat" (Mate10_Root_2018011701.zip)
C. It will reboot itself for the first boot to install SuperSU app.

Note: Magisk root is ported to Mate 10 and verified passing safetynet check on ALP-L29C636B129. See this post (Link).

I can confirm that this works on Mate 10 Pro as well (yup the Pro version), rooted and installed supersu fine. Running titanium backup fine. Data partition preserved as well.

rooting the phone breaks front cam artistic bokeh and scene detection. does that mean the AI will still improve battery and performance? or the whole AI is disabled with root?

What do you mean only the camera ? AI is completely disabled once the phone is rooted

If you're talking about the translator app. It works on any phone, AI or not. People say it works better with AI (not technically proved tho)

no i dont use translator so all AI stop work after root . Hope we will get it work after root someday

I think there's more to it than that. I have no idea what Kang did, but it was ingenious and he figured out how to get the AI to work with root being enabled. I think it being a "custom ROM" has something to do with it

Mate10_Root_2018011701.zip use Kangvip ROM's sepolicy, now it can use AI function.

    Hi, I've got a Honor V10 with Emui8.
I flashed this, it rooted, but face unlock doesn't work.
So i tried to make a rooted boot.img by myself.
I got the original ramdisk.img from the stock update.app by Huawei Update Extractor, and unpack it by bootimg.exe
I download your mate_10_root.img and mate_10_stock.img and compare them.
I placed these files/folders just like you've did in mate_10_root.img
    1. .subackup folder into the ramdisk folder(initrd),
    2. .su folder into res folder
    3. replace the stock init.rc with yours
    4. copy init.supersu.rc
    5. copy fbe_bypass.sh into sbin
    6. copy launch_daemonsu.sh into sbin
    7. copy tar into sbin
    8. replace sepolicy which i get it from Hrt-lin 's mod for Honor V10

Then i modified the cpiolist.txt to add the extra files and dirs.
    Repack ramdisk then repack boot.img

I flash the new boot.img in fastboot mode by ‘fastboot flash ramdisk boot-new.img’
But I didn't get supersu on the desktop, and didn't get root either.

Would you please give us a guide on How to make a rooted boot.img ? There are so few guides about huawei's phone.
You'd be kind to do this , and we don't need to wait for twrp for new huawei phone. For twrp's porting is so slow.

    Thanks a lot.
