DOING THE FOLLOWING INCORRECTLY WILL MOST LIKELY BRICK YOUR PHONE. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT WITH ADB AND BASIC UNIX COMMANDS

To change the firmware to generic (or in theory to any of the firmware listed in post two -although this has been untested at this time - only generic UK has been tested) follow these instructions:

  • Follow the instructions here to obtain root. If running "adb devices" at the command prompt lists no devices when the phone is actually connected download the USB drivers from here.
  • Download the attached build.prop file which is for Generic "Customized UK/Black"
  • OPTIONAL: Using notepad replace 1238-0199 with any of the values from post two (the CDF number) to change to another variant
  • Push the edited file to your phone's sdcard: "adb push build.prop /sdcard/build.prop"
  • Then: "adb shell" and type "su", grant the root access on your phone and then "rm /system/build.prop" and "./busybox cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/"
  • Lastly use the Sony Ericsson Update Service to install the new firmware

Hope this is useful :D

I can't get it to work.

I have a Vodafone ES branded Xperia 10, I've tried it a couple times, but the Vodafone crap is always there.

No permission, but i have root permission, my phone is rooted.
build.prop deleted in system folder.
Cannot copy from file explorer on the phone.
adb Shell works, cannot copy from sdcard to system folder.
Any idea?

Caution!
Don't delete build.prop and reboot your x10 mini (pro)!

Ok, PC Companion restore will works... ;-)

@vodafone: yes, your edited step-by-step instruction are the right way...

Summary: it's funny... :) that's not a mobile phone, but a small (pocket pc) touchscreen computer with many wireless option, BT, WiFi, GSM/UMTS & Linux OS!

will post all screenshots & experiences on pitti.tumblr.com/post/904951933/x10-mini-pro-experiences

  • Then: "adb shell" and type "su", grant the root access on your phone and then "rm /system/build.prop" and "cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop"
  • Lastly use the Sony Ericsson Update Service to install the new firmware

Hope this is useful :D

Tried with all the dk roms from post two, and none of them works, flashing generic UK no matter what digits you change in the build.prop. :/

Hmm thats a shame, I wonder if its anything to do with the following line:

ro.semc.version.cust_revision=R11A

Maybe try changing that line to: ro.semc.version.cust_revision=R1A

It's a long shot but might work :)

I make all the steps, but the final "cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop" apears that "cp: not found"
I asure that all the steps are ok. Which i make bad.

Cheers.

EDIT: I will make a screenprint with the process.

SEUS says that the phone is up to date, i'm trying reinstalling after copying the build.prop.

for those who can copy it directly from the pc, copy to the sd card and use root explorer to copy it to /system

Sorry but i doesn't understand you. Sorry for all english readers, but i ask in spanish to explain better to user skyleth ;)

A que te refieres con usar root explorer, ¿en que parte de ese paso seria?
Si no es mucha molestia dimelo por aqui o si prefieres por mp.

Gracias.

Cheers and thanks.

    Yeah i made it!!!!

Only i do all the steps (using the root explorer to copy the build.prop) and then i desinstall the PC companion programs, and install again. When the program detect my mobile, starts a download of the firmware, and now, Firmware unbrand and with QWERTY.

    Cheers.

to change the keyboard layout just edit the file "keyprint.xml" in system/usr/keyboard-config.

for spanish keyboard you have to change:

    <script name="latin" keylayout="qwerty-en" /> to <script name="latin" keylayout="qwerty-br" />

    (br is the change)

for the others i think there is a file where you can see, but i can't remember which one.

thanks to michalko58 who wrote this in the "remapping ..." thread.
