Sorry to bring this post back from hibernation. Is it still working for you?

I have the Pixel 2 XL, latest pdanet+ and foxfi key and pdanet on my phone. I was able to get wifi direct working on my previous phone, an s3 (running nougat).

Thus far I have only been able to get tethering to work on the Pixel 2, but when I run wifi direct my computer and the PDAnet program doesn't see the broadcast ID of the Pixel 2 whatsoever. A pop up box during wifi direct search said my wireless nic may not see 5g networks. Strangely enough my old s3 was able to connect through wifi direct from the Pixel 2 with ease. Later on, I am going to test it on my home network and laptop and see if my problem is with the nic (more specifically it's a wireless usb adapter) on this computer.

Update:

It was indeed a problem with the wifi adapter I was using. The second I switched to a 2.4/5 capable it found it.

Works great for anyone who needs a workaround with out rooting.
