You have to follow the instructions in OT, first check which bootloader your phone has, second download the U version according to the bootloader you have and flash it through odin.

My phone was locked to t-mobile, I already unlocked it, but when I turn the phone on still shows t-mobile logo on the screen, I want to get rid of that. Someone told me I have to flash the phone from U to U1, this is why I'm here.

And that's what I explained to you. You have to flash u1 and how to do it is on the OP(Opening Post). Just read carefully and read the other threads linked there too.

Very useful information folks!! Thanks a ton.

Dumb question (I am new to flashing). I have a verizon issued note 20 ultra (U version) which I jsut got unlocked today . I am able to install a tmobile SIM and it works fine. However, I have come to know that the latest tmobile update (for tmobile issued phones) added esim capability. Can I directly flash tmobile version available at the OTA link ? or do I have to go from verizon (U) to U1 to Tmobile (U) ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

[Update]

I flashed the TMB U firmware and voila it worked!! On a call with Tmobile to get the esim activated. Will let u folks know how it goes.

[Update-2]
T-Mobile was more than happy to activate the esim. Mission accomplished :)

Did you lose your data when flashing TMB U firmware? I have a U1 and would like to switch to TMB U firmware for eSim but don't want to lose data.

I just tried flashing TMB U firmware on U1 for eSim.
I used HOME_CSC from TMB firmware to not lose the data, flashed successfully, but failed to boot.
So, I flashed U1 firmware again with HOME_CSC from XAA, I was able to boot again then.
Edit: Just realized that it now says TMB/TMB/XAA on software info after reflashing U1 firmware. :\

I am also trying to do exactly as you did. Quick question: are both your sim cards (physical and esim) from T-mobile? I would like to use esim with T-mobile and physical sim from Verizon. Do you know if that will work with the TMB U firmware?

I do not have Verizon sim anymore. But my physical sim card is on AT&T (e-sim on Tmobile). So, yes I think it will with Verizon as well since the network unlocked phone is compatible with all US carriers.

I have a T-mobile N986U , I was flash to unlocked(U1) for UI3 beta and keep OTA update, now when I use Odin to flash back to T-mobile (U) it success and reboot automatic but it reboot 2 to 3 time then my phone boot to recovery mode but only had 3 option reboot, factory reset and recovery log. Phone work when I flash back U1 without data lost.

N986U1UES2DUC8 > Good
N986U1UES2DUD5 > Good
N986USQU2DUC8 > Can't boot

Anyone can help how to flash back to t-mobile with e-sim support?

Are you getting all features ( WIFI Calling, VOLTE etc) for your ATT physical sim?
Volte works. Wi-Fi calling is not working (works for the e-sim on T-Mobile)

WARNING - Samsung has upgraded to Bootloader 2, if you are on bootloader 2 you can not flash U to U1 or U1 to U until a solution is found
INTRODUCTION - Firstly sorry for posting this as this is common knowledge for many. I still see so many people asking the same questions again and again and i do want to help so decided to write a guide.
If you have Odin Flashing questions please ask here. I have converted a device from U to U1 (just for fun) so i know this works, many other users have confirmed this too.
    PART 1

Pre-Requisites - PC / Laptop, USB Cable, Phone
Switch on USB Debugging from Developer options. To turn on developer options go to Settings>>About Phone>>Software Information>> Then tap the build number 7 times - Developer options will appear at the bottom of Settings Menu.

HOW TO - N986U to N986U1 and or Flash ATID or Flash Any Odin compatible ROM
    1. If you want to flash or update to One UI 3 Beta then Download the ATID Firmware here.
For changing Carrier locked device to Unlocked Firmware (N986U to N986U1) Download the firmware for U1 from OTA Thread or by using Frija

If you are Flashing One UI 3 Stable download the appropriate firmware. There are many resources for that, there is a thread in the N20 Ultra forums, there are tools like Frija and SamFW and more, then there are various websites. Where you are downloading from is your outlook just ensure you download Odin compatible ROM.

    2. Download Patched Odin here
    3. Unpack/Unzip what you downloaded in Step 2 (Odin Compatible ROm) and put in a folder. Lets call the folder "Flash"
    4. Run Odin, click on BL, Browse to the "Flash" folder, add BL file from there, Do the same for AP (click on AP, Add AP file, this will take some time), Same for CP (click on CP, Add CP file)
    5. Do the same for CSC (click on CSC, Add the file with the name starting with Home_CSC). If you use Home_CSC your phone will not get formatted and data will remain Intact
    USERDATA Stays empty.
    6. Now connect USB cable to your laptop (Only laptop and not the phone)>> Turn off your phone >> Press volume up and volume down keep them pressed and plug in the USB type C into your phone.
    7. You should be in download mode now, press volume up. In Odin you will see that phone is added.
    8. Press start in Odin. Wait for it to finish and let the phone restart (it will happen On its own).
    9. Done

    PART 2
HOW TO - N986U or N986U1 Latest Security Patch or Firmware upgrade / downgrade
    1. Download the firmware for Corresponding device - For example if you are on SM-N986U1 then download for U1. If you are N986U locked to TMB, VZW, SPR etc etc download the firmware for U device and your Own CSC from OTA Thread or by using Frija or SamFirm tool.
    2. If downloaded using Frija or SamFirm Tool it will be in a compressed folder (ZIP). Extract the firmware files in a folder, lets call it "Flash"
Follow the rest of the steps from Step 4 Above.

    FAQ
    Can I get E-Sim with this ?
If you are doing this to get E-Sim capability that t-mobile just added
here is a post from someone who converted their phone to T-Mobile version.

Another reason to switch to U1 firmware is the ability to get access to features that are disabled on carrier versions.
I went to U1 firmware so I could enable "Call and text on other devices" and get rid off the carrier bloat.
This is disabled on AT&T and Verizon versions... not sure about T-Mobile/Sprint devices.

I've been using the u1 version on my u from att after like a month and it's been working great. I also got the april security patch on the 1st so it's definitely being great.

I have been trying to odin my att note 20 ultra to the t-mobile firmware, so far I've only been able to get it to boot like it is the unlocked version, and can't find the reason
I dont know anyone who has done such a thing but i guess there is a use case for everything. Have you tried flashing unlocked Variant first and then Odin to T-Mobile.

Are you trying to go from the unlocked 3.1 DUC1 build to VZW firmware? They updated the bootloader from BL1 to BL2 on DUC1 so we are not able to roll back to anything older. The VZW firmware is still on BL1.

If that is the case will have to wait for VZW to release new firmware with BL2 before you can switch. My guess would be it will be included in next months security patch update.
