Ok, so I followed the steps. Everything went smoothly... I think? I hooked my aria up to my mac, opened up the Evo3 reflash and installed it (it went through a bunch of stuff on my phone's screen and ended up rebooting, but I never had to do anything). It says "Done" on the Evo3 reflash window on my computer now, so am I just retarded or is nothing different about my phone?

This is an HTC Aria forum. Do you have an EVO or Aria, or did you select the wrong option from unrevoked?

OK, I didn't know that. I rooted my Aria before unrevoked had an option for it. It sounds like it probably worked. Look in you apps and see if you have the superuser app. I believe that is part of the process that unrevoked uses (I recall this from rooting my brother's Hero with unrevoked).

Only visible difference between the pre-root and post-root phones is the addition of "Superuser Permissions" application. If ypu have it, you are rooted.

Hold the VOLUME_DOWN button down then press the POWER button for about a second while still holding the VOLUME_DOWN button. Once the phone comes alive, release the VOLUME_DOWN button.

successfully rooted

I am a complete android noob. It took me a little bit to figure out how to get the drivers worked out ... but i have successfully rooted the phone using this method, so thank you!

While I was successful, something strange happened with the drivers. The computer would see the phone as a different device when in HBOOT vs turned on. Once the drivers were installed in HBOOT, i turned on the phone and windows wanted to install new drivers again (wtf?). I then installed HTC sync, which allowed me to start the rooting process, but half-way through the rooting process, when it goes back to HBOOT, the computer failed to recognize the phone. I then had to reinstall the modified usb drivers (by unrevoked) for the process to complete.

I am still trying to figure out how to get the extra programs htc and att wont normally let me remove, but ill figure it out soon enough. The driver issue wasn't a huge deal, but it is an issue and i doubt i am the only one.

I'm kind of confused on what issue its causing you. Can you explain exactly what problem you're still having?

And as for the system apps, the easiest way to remove them is with Titanium Backup in Chuck Norris mode.

I've sucessfully rooted my Aria (I think) Phone shows super users permissions in the apps however when I try to install an app from SD card using app installer it says permissions denied. I also tried to install superuser from the market and it says unsucessful? Did it really root or not? What should I do?

Anyone had success with the european Aria called "Gratia" ? All the sites tell me its the same phone except the new android 2.2 on it so i gave it a try and unrevoked 3.22 (Changelog 3.2: "Added support for Froyo builds on all supported devices") keeps telling me that it didn't worked in the end. Unrevoked starts and thinks its a Aria and reboots into HBoot just fine, then another reboot and in the end it tells me to try again (which i did 3 times) because the phone isn't rootet.

Its me doing something wrong (installed the modded usb drivers before), or is it the phone because its the european version ? Infos from the phone:

Maybe someone can tell me wether rooting with this phone should work or not - and how to root it if unrevoked does not work.

As far as I know, you are the first to try it. I think you may need to contact the unrevoked team to see if they will work with you on developing an update for your firmware if unrevoked does not work.

I would try shad0wf0x's liveCD spin before contacting them.

I am with attn1, Windows has a hell of a time communicating with android devices in this fashion. Try the livecd method. If that doesn't work contact unrevoked. You can always chat with the aria team as well by joining the chat located here http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#liberatedAria. Also if you do get it to work and do a nandroid backup can you send attn1 or I the system.img and boot.img. We'd like to take a look at it as this will also help you in case you need or want to return to stock htc sense rom. The system.img and boot.img do not contain any personal information. Hope to hear from you soon.
