No. Yes. That message will only appear if you unlock Bootloader, and not for any other reason.

Follow the instructions exactly. All commands should be performed.

Hello -
I'm coming from HTC rooting and tried to root my son's Moto G 1540 (US 1 GB) version using the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/guide-install-twrp-root-xposed-t3294588
Now the phone starts to boot, but it is stuck at the booting logo (Big M with stitches going around it).
I need to fix this - I feel terrible about bricking/soft-bricking my son's phone and want to restore it for him.

Can I just run this command: "fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img" to get rid of root, or do I need to run all the commands?

With HTC, I could revert to factory by using the Rom Update Utility (RUU) from HTC or doing a factory reset.
I don't see an RUU option for Motorola, and doing a factory reset with the phone doesn't seem to help. I think rooting it changes the boot image.

Thank you for your help!
Dan

That command on it's own will not remove root. Include: fastboot flash boot boot.img

If you still have issues, do a factory reset as described in first post, and do every single command exactly as described. You should do more research regarding rooting Marshmallow before attempting that again.

I want to update my phone from 6.0 to 6.0.1 XT1550 retasia. I have the firmware now. Can i flash it without wiping user data?
You can but you may be unhappy with the results. For the best experience possible, factory reset as described in OP, and do all commands including ease userdata.

lost101: thank you for the sober advice.
I believed I had researched the latest root method - using the appropriate TWRP (booted into TWRP - didn't flash it) and then the beta superuser app.

I'll try the two commands you suggested, and see what happens. Thank you very much! I'll let you know what happens.

Edit -
the two commands weren't enough to allow a full boot. I did a getvar all in fastboot, and it appeared that there was no baseband version, leading me to believe that I hosed the OS - probably when booting TWRP and not preserving the partition information. Bad goof on my side if that caused the problem.

I was able to restore factory images following the instructions in the OP. Thank you!

@lost101 quick question... I am thinking on manually flash from zero (I am on stock) the 6.0 for my European 2g xt1541 but I can see only 4 sparsechunk while people says that 6.0 has six sparsechunk files.. Is the ROM complete? Sorry to disturb could be is a silly question but I can see 6 files on other marshmallow roms (xt1541 1g reteu for example) so this shocked me AND I prefered to wait as there is no rush to flash ;)) Thanks in advance
