The Official Pie OTA is rolling out for Sprint/Boost/Virgin. It should have the release tag PCP29.118-41 and you'll need to be on build OCPS27.91-150-6 to download it. If you happen to get it, please capture it. If you don't know how, then ask and someone will be happy to help you out. It should be sent to all the G6 Play variants by the end of August.

And also while flashing try this to prevent any further issues. DO NOT USE THESE FOLLOWING COMMANDS

fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin

REMEMBER DO NOT USE THOSE and try reflashing like normal minus those commands
So, I had to do this to get back to stock. For those who don't know I deleted Chrome and Gmail and didn't realize Google integrated EVERYTHING at least on my phone.

So I did a full flash following the instructions in the OP, but minus what I just quoted. Now I can receive calls, but they can't hear me. Is it because I didn't use those three commands? Or was it the fastboot erase modem1/2 thing I was worried about?

Everything else works as it should...save Titanium Backup and my music player (GoneMad) won't "remember" I have it set to storage. One reboot for any reason they point themselves back to internal storage and I have to set them back to external (SDcard). I had this problem on both versions so I'm not sure if its a root problem or a G6 Play problem.

Both versions = out the box the phone was XT1922-9_JETER_RETUS_8.0.0_OPP27.91-35. When I did a full flash, I used the most recent version to date (Feb 2019): XT1922-9_JETER_RETUS_8.0.0_OPPS27.91-140-6. Besides a much better camera (well more options and looks cleaner), seems the same.

But anyway...why can't I hear folks when they call? How can I fix this?

EDIT: Ah I should reiterate I'm on Oreo. OREO. Android 8.0.0.

Don't skip this one, fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin. Only skip the bootloader and gpt.bin. adspso.bin contains the sound drivers for your firmware. You always need to flash that to avoid problems.

Well fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin worked, I can hear now when I make or receive phone calls. :D

I believe it's an app problem. Enabling "force allow apps on external" in Dev settings might fix it. If not, formatting your external sd as adoptable should provide a workaround.
"Force allow apps on external" didn't work, and I'm not going the adoptive storage route. Ah well, everything else works, I'll deal with it till I get another phone.

After enabling force allow, open the apps settings, then select storage and move it to external. I probably should've mentioned that. If you already adopted it though, I'd just roll with that.

Due to my brain being broke and certain things That I have done to myself, I will be spending the next couple days- few weeks in the psych ward. Not saying this for attention I'm just not the person to sugarcoat anything and feel I should at least say why you will not here from me for a bit. This is a voluntary choice to go now before it get worse. No it's not a drug problem either. As for updates to the guide I will be removing the 32gb Oreo twrp and replacing it with the pie twrp as it's been discovered the 140-6 firmware for the xt1922-9 retus model will not decrypt after swiping right to allow modifications or formating and typing yes not sure why but that change will be done before I leave later today. If there is anything else that should either be added and or removed please tell me now. I will be leaving about 10-11 a.m u.s eastern time

Take care of your mind, it's the only one you get.

There's a magisk module that writes apps to external too
Exsd enabler or something
Ok here's the thing, I typically use my SD card as secondary storage for three things: pics, music, and my Titanium Backup folder. Beyond that I prefer apps stay in the internal storage. The adoptive storage thing seems bizarre to me (yes I know what it is) because IMO the drawbacks outweigh the benefits, but that's another topic for another day. Normally when I tell an app in settings to look in the SD card folder instead of the internal folder, it does and it stays there till I set it otherwise/re-install the app. So far for my browser (Opera) and gallery (QuickPic (Modded)) it sticks, but for Titanium Backup and GoneMad Music Player it does not.

It is possible it is just those two apps, but I found one instance of another G6 Play owner having the same issue. Like I said, if a solution can't be found (besides adoptive storage), I'll stick with it till I get another phone, either the G6 or the G6 Plus. Its annoying but from my perspective I could have FAR worse problems with this phone so glass half full and all.

Of note though: when you go into /storage you'll see self, emulated, and your SD card, right? Well my SD card (128GB Samsung) has some ridiculously long file name. I don't know if that's an issue, but when I put an old file card in (64GB Samsung) that had a shorter name I had the same problem, so maybe not.

@RodimusConvoy

The really long sdcard name is because it's formatted as fat32. If you format it as portable using stock Pie, it'll change it to exfat and give it a regular name. The downsides vs benefits of adoptable, I definitely agree with you on. I only use it if I need a file larger than my internal storage can hold. An exfat sdcard can handle 4gb+ file sizes but I've noticed that apps have problems writing files that large to it.
