The telegram already has twrp 3.3.1 https://t.me/JeterAljeter/24684
This isn't the place for that. You're going to cause problems for us by trying to share that here. I definitely don't appreciate it. Please look up the word tact, because this is severely lacking it. You give no sources, no credits, accessing the download link requires installing an app, and you're posting it in someone else's twrp thread. Everything about this is wrong on so many levels. It's perfectly fine to share something like this, but not in this way. Make a new thread instead. I don't want to be stuck troubleshooting other peoples work.

I probably shouldn't ask this here (I'm new), so pardon beforehand, but can I flash a stock rom ofthe loli mirrors from twrp and then root normally? thanks beforehand
Those are firmware packages. Not TWRP flashable. You have to extract the zip and install the files/images in fastboot.
Or flash with RSDlite.

When it comes to questions involving stock firmware, and the twrp for this guide you came to the right place lol, just don't ask about other twrps or gsi stuff because this guide is not for them and there is a gsi guide for those questions, and me and our twrp maintainer spaceminer as well as a few others do not want to troubleshoot other people's twrps for many reasons, which I recommend just using the twrp from this guide for anything involved with the g6 play. Now at the bottom of the guide there is the needed adb commands to flash and reflash stock firmware from fastboot or like madbat said you can use the Moto smart assistant and once you've done that just follow the guide to root. Ota and stock firmware are not able to be flashed or installed while you have twrp flashed everything must be stock.

You were very helpful, many thanks. Final question: How do I revert to stock recovery? I want to downgrade to the oreo firmware so I can use xposed along with your root method (which worked wonders for me)

You could either reflash the stock firmware or just flash the stock recovery from the backups I tell you to take in the guide if you read it lol. But I would suggest just reflashing stock firmware so your fully working with as they say a clean slate lol

Adb minimal just simply installs the bare minimum you need to have adb working 2. The code is there just read it. You must be using command prompt.....
