I'm just running into this after years of hoping for a bootloader unlockable S9 that I can use on Verizon. So much appreciated to Krog18, stang5litre and klabit87 for all your time and help! Quick question, I'm going to try and buy one today, but I see that on Amazon there are two G9650's. One is dual sim and the other is single sim. But they both say that their G9650's. Will this work on either? Because I will definitely go for the dual sim if that's the case. Thank you again!
Yes it will work either way. I have the single sim and Stang has a dual sim. And they are both indeed the same model G9650.

Steps

No need for Verizon firmware. Just use whatever firmware comes with your device and follow the instructions. Then let me know if you have any issues.

So I already have the latest firmware on my phone. Do you have a link to what tools I should use to flash the rest of the two files onto my phone?

Edit: I'm not sure I understand how i'm going to flash the ODM then the EFS
Figured it was Qualcomm Snapdragon

Use twrp because they are flashable zips.

You don't need to flash vzw firmware. What model is your device?

its a S9 Plus SM-G9650/DS
i plugged the sim card in and can make calls and have data but can not send pictures and didn't know if that was the issue. i have tried editing the APN file and it will not edit and also tried to make a new one and it just disappears when i hit save. any insight would be great.

Install twrp on your device and flash the zip. That should get everything working properly.

Hey can anyone confirm for me that the SM-G9650 is working with Dual VoLTE - 4G with VoLTE on both SIM slots simultaneously like the G960FD/G965FD does?

sorry for the slightly off topic question, but i saw your comments about the dual sim single sim phones and it sparked a question. Do all the S9's have room for a dual sim tray? it would be pretty unfathomable for samsung to build a different set of guts to fit a single sim vs the dual sim tray.

Fathomable or not, it is true. I myself have a single sim model and others have a dual sim model. I have not disassembled mine to look and see for myself if the hardware is truly different or if it's simply a software thing but they do exist. The tray itself is the same size. The dual sim models just opt for either an additional sim or an external micro SD card. The single sim model tray only lets me fit one sim card and one external SD card.

That's my point. Is the hardware there? Is there another sim reader behind the one? If there is, one would only really need to flash the DS version of the G960F 4 firmware files in Odin

No. Not the F variant for one and second there is no separate firmware for the ds models.

Can't get data to work on mvno (Straight Talk might be others) (Verizon based is only one with coverage in my area 03598) the 4gLTE icon shows up after flashing the files for pie mention in the OP but I was able to make calls and send mms prior to flashing anyway.. still can just Data refuse to function any idea what going on?

I'll have to look more at this very soon. I will do some checking and testing to see what's going on.

Attached pictures showing various network settings so you see what I'm seeing currently. Might aid in issue tracking not sure but still at least a start point lol.
