It wasn't letting me search for networks with my H2o simcard (att), it was gray just like yours, even with proper APNs.

When I tried my PTel simcard (tmobile mvno), it let me search right away, and it did connect to it as well.

Hmmm, might be ATT then, going to get a Tmobile prepaid SIM card from work tomorrow and give it a try

Ok so I got it registered to T-Mobile had bars, and gsm above the data arrows. But when I tried to place a call it would kick me off right away or it would just cut off service.... Also when I did #*#*4636#*#* it showed my Tmobile number and signal info.... So idk

The link for the Google Play app in #2 of the OP is dead. Can someone re-upload the apk and post the link please?
it's dead because the OP just copy/pasted everything and never fixed hyperlink ;)

just search for terminal emulator in the Play store.

I'm getting an error in the terminal that "Activity class <info from OP> does not exist" and an error code type 3. I am rooted according to whoami. I'm running CM10.1 on Sprint HTC One. Anyone else having issues?

The T-Mo SIM card does not have to be activated in order to for the phone to see bars, does it? I am assuming not, as I am able to stick the T-Mo SIM into an unlocked Verizon device and bars/data status show up.

After completing the unlock and inserting the SIM, just get the X above the signal bars... Perhaps I will have to do some more digging through settings...

Mine doesn't pick up bars until I go into the mobile data settings, select "available GSM networks" at the bottom, then search for my network and select it. It should pick up bars after you do that.

so the on in Q&A is getting full of nothing so time to start one with the guide

I don't take any credit just posting,,,All credit goes to hotaru2k3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4572661) and Rimidal (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1468774) for writing step by step and video

1. You should be rooted
2. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...al.androidterm
3. Run Terminal Emulator
4. Type "su" (excluding quotation marks) and grant it superuser permission
5. Type "am start com.redbend.vdmc/com.htc.omadm.test.TestMainActivity" (excluding quotation marks)
6. You will get menu on your HTC
7. In that menu, select "API", then scroll down 'till almost end and select "simlock"
8. Reboot the phone and hopefully it would accept GSM SIM
9. Enter *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer
10.In the phone information section(the first one) set preferred network type to something that is GSM specific: "WCDMA Preferred", for example. The phone will switch to GSM mode

here's a video also if you get stuck

Thanks so much ! Will be travelling shortly and will come in handy !

In fact I just chatted with Sprint and they wanted me to take the phone to the store.

BTW - what should be the default preferred network when in US and wanting to stay regular / BAU mode?

Is this different than Sprint unlocking it? I've had them unlock already. Can I not use the networks as you guys are? If that's the case can I use this method safely when I'm already unlocked? Thanks.
