Welcome to the Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 Original Android Development Thread.

This guide is going to show you how to root, install CWM Recovery and so on, but first what is a galaxy ace?

The Samsung Galaxy Ace, is a smartphone introduced by a korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung, which released in January 2011, It features a 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor with the Adreno 200 GPU. The Galaxy Ace is a 3.5G smartphone, offering quad-band GSM and announced with two-band HSDPA (900/2100) at 7.2Mbit/s. The display is a 3.5 inch TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen with its protection by a Gorilla Glass and has HVGA (320x480) resolution. There is also a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, capable of recording videos at QVGA (320x240) resolution and VGA (640x480) resolution with the Gingerbread update, and a 1350mAh Li-Ion battery.

A little more in detail:

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Ace has a 5 Megapixel auto-focus camera with a resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels. It has a LED flash along with the camera for low-light scenes. It also has face and smile detection and geotagging, but does not have a shutter key. The contrast and brightness can be adjusted through on screen menu. The Samsung Galaxy Ace's camera is also capable of up to 2x camera zoom.

Firmware Upgrade.

In Aug 31, 2011, an update to Android 2.3.4, 'Gingerbread', was rolled out for India.
The up-to-date version delivered via Kies is 2.3.6, 'Gingerbread'.

Now getting to the main point, you might have some questions like:

1) What is Rooting?
2) What is CWM?

1) Rooting is a process allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running Android to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's system. To go further in details, It installs an app called Super User which allows the user to access the device as a developer or to perform activities that are not privileged to the user.

How Can we root the galaxy ace?

It is recommended that you update your galaxy ace, either through kies, or OTA update to latest Gingerbread 2.3 android version. To confirm you have gingerbread follow these steps.

> Go to Settings
> About Phone
> Android version should be 2.3 :good:

Instructions for rooting:

> Copy the attached file upd_1.zip from below to your sd card.

> Switch off your phone.

> Go to Recovery mode. To do that you need to switch off your phone. Then switch it on when pressing the Power Button and the Home button. When the Samsung Logo appears, let go of the POWER button only. You should now be in recovery.

> In recovery mode, you can scroll up and down using VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, and select using the HOME button.

> Using the Volume buttons, scroll to apply update from sd card, and select it using the HOME button.

> Select the upd_1.zip file and select it.

> After it's done installing, select "reboot system now" and wait for the phone to reboot.

> You have successfully rooted, now you have an app called SuperUser in your app drawer.

2) What is CWM?
Above i showed you how to root. Did you see that menu in the recovery? CWM stands for Clockwork mod and it is a recovery menu for the galaxy ace which adds many features to the recovery menu so that a user can install different mods, patches and roms.

How to install CWN ClockworkMod on Galaxy Ace S5830

Copy recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip on SDcard
Completely switch off the phone
Reboot by pressing Home+Power button and then release only the power button
Now goto apply update from sdcard >> then select the recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip
That`s it... After the process completed reboot your phone.

Now, you have CWM and Root Access. You can go over to install different ROMS, from the Android Development Section.

Now heading over to another section. Original Android Development of Galaxy Ace.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace, which is also well known as "cooper" started on the firmware of Froyo, 2.1. It soon got an upgrade of Gingerbread like a year later. The update of Android 2.3.4 added vast improvements to the Galaxy Ace Android System. It improved the 15fps of video recording up to 24 fps. More performance improvements, and was soon known to be the most stable official Android System for the Galaxy Ace.

As you know, the Galaxy Ace has an outdated armv6 processor, and very less RAM. Due to these reasons, the Galaxy Ace will never get official ICS from Samsung. The development stopped for Galaxy Ace after they released Android 2.3.6 which is the last known official android version of the Galaxy Ace.

The 2.3.6 update changed icons for the Phone.apk and the Memo.apk, added overscroll glow and many other features.

FAQ.
What is an .apk?

Any android application has to be compressed to an .apk file so that it can be installed or be shared. To allow using .apk files, from application settings, tick unknown sources.
I recommend not downloading .apk files of paid files because that is warez. How would you feel that you spend so much time making an app, upload it to the Play Store for like $1.00 at the very least and people just download it and share it for free. Sharing any kind of paid app on XDA is not tolerated and at first you'll just get a warning, but you might face a ban as well. APK in full is Android Application Package file.
