Hhmm.. Ok thank you for your information. T-mobile is not support in indonesia. So, should i call T-mobile technical support to unlocking my network?
Where did you get your phone. Which network are you currently using. If you bought it from from local seller then there are chances that it would be unlocked already. There are also some website which provides unlock code for 5 dollars or more.

Hi, I was successful with the guide until I got into TWRP and it gave me some error about failed to decrypt data so I did "format data" and after that I manually flashed the no-verity-opt thing (I forget the name) and also SU. I then booted into the system and I see that I have TWRP app and also SuperSU app. But when I try to boot into TWRP to flash the new 20n zip and magisk I am unable to.

None of the Quick Reboot apps in play store will reboot into recovery. Then I used your script here and selected to reboot into recovery but all it does is reboot my phone and it goes back to System.

It appears that I have lost TWRP completely. Please advise me what I need to do to get TWRP. Do I have to start all over from the very beginning? I tried to install TWRP using the play store app and it says that it did so successfully but when I try to boot to recovery nothing happens it just reboots my phone into system. I also tried using flashify to flash the -opt-no-verity (I forget the exact name, sorry) and after doing that I tried again to install TWRP using the play store app but even though it says successful I still dont see TWRP on my phone AT ALL. Please help me, somebody

It took me 4 hours just to get this far because the script would fail with different assortment of errors and FINALLY, FINALLY I have root but I am stuck on 20k and trying to upgrade to 20n on my H830

Please dont say I have to start all over because most likely the script will fail if I try to exploit again using Recowvery

And I turned off phone and pressed volume down + power to see if I can get into TWRP that way but it says factory reset yes or no? And I did not want to risk saying Yes because it may factory reset and wipe out all my hard work that I have accomplished so far with recowvery.

Please help me somebody, I am at my wits end

Code:

Exploiting /system/bin/run-as... SUCCESS!

Creating backup of boot at /sdcard/stock_boot.img... SUCCESS!
Flashing recovery.img for fun and for profit... SUCCESS!
Now I keep getting that error when I try option 2 from the script. I have tried it on my Windows 10 Desktop and also on my laptop and dont know how to overcome that error.

Also i tried to factory reset thinking that i could run the script after that and maybe it would work. But even the factory reset failed and nothng happened.

EDIT: Doing a factory reset from the LG settings menu puts the phone into a bootloop (a very fast bootloop that shows the lg splash screen for 1 second then black for 1 second then lg splash for 1 second then black for 1 second and so forth. I was able to get out of that boot loop by holding down volume minus and power and then saying yes to the factory reset question (but it did not actually factory reset it just brought me back to System.

That really scared the sh1t out of me, I think im just going to go back to stock. i cant risk getting into a permanent bootloop because phone is out of warranty

UPDATE: THe issue is resolved thanks to good advice I got from autoPRIME. He told me since I am rooted to just use flashify to flash the twrp.img and then I rebooted into recovery with the adb reboot recovery command. Once inside TWRP I flashed 20n complete + Magisk (no need to wipe cache) and then booted back into System and its working splendid.

Thank you OP for this great tutorial, I am so happy to finally have root and be on the newest build. Will look forward to trying some custom roms in the future

Worked like a charm. After using recowvery to flash TWRP, I manually flashed Magisk and H83020N. Root and TWRP have stuck, no issues at all. Thanks for the great work!

Hey, I just got a refurb H830. It's still on MM 6.1
I hope it's alright if I ask a few newbie questions. It's been a while since I've rooted anything. The LG G3 was the last time and it was easy.

So, is it recommended that I don't root until I am on Nougat 20a, and then use this method? IS there an easier way to root Marshmallow 6.1? If I we're to just do that if possible, would I be on dated firmware and would that be problematic?

Thanks for any help

edit: "Senior member" haha!!! Like I said, haven't been on for a while! :)

Rooting after updating to v20a is the easiest method and secure. Just download 20a kdz, flash it using lgup. Root using this guide. If anything wrong happens just mention me. There is also a back to life thread by me if you ever brick your phone. Link for that is in FAQ. Most question are answered in FAQ. Happy rooting

@sadiquabad

It worked. The only confusion I had was it would reboot int system first which wasn't mentioned. And you have to press any key in Recowvery after to get it to boot up into TWRP after it reboots into system.

One more question: I formatted data. When I perform an action in TWRP it still shows encryption messages in red. Is that normal? I was able to flash though so I don't think it's actually blocking anything.

"Checking permissions in the EasyRecowvery directory...FAILED!

We don't have permission to create log or backup files in
C:\Users\Lionel\Downloads\LG G5 ROOT\EasyRecowvery-1.3b3\!
Please extract EasyRecowvery to a different directory, then try again."

Anyone know how to fix this after I press 2?

recowvery

This is guide to root and install twrp on lg g5 T-Mobile using recowvery method.
Read 4th post before proceeding
This method is to root & install TWRP on only T-Mobile LG G5 running Nougat 20a software. If your phone isn't on 20a then first downgrade/upgrade to 20a software.
Before asking a question, first, see FAQ in 3rd post. In that way you can save a lot of time.

For Video Guide refer to 5th Post

Download:
1: Recowvery (2nd post)
2: Minimal adb (2nd post)
3: TWRP
A: H830 For H850 (Refer to this Post and read carefully)
[Download TWRP 3.0.2 as 3.1.0 is having some little issues with flashing with autorecowvery] Always download latest TWRP available for your device to avoid most issues.
(rename it to recovery.img)

Procedure:
Drivers should be installed. Also install minimal ADB and fastboot.

1: Make sure to unlock bootloader. Backup internal data because it will be erased.
A: First enable developer options and toggle “Enable OEM unlock” to ON. Also enable “USB Debugging”.
B: Run Minimal ADB and Fastboot. Enter Command

Code:
adb devices

C: You will see permission dialogue on phone. Tick “Always allow” and ok.
D: Now enter.

Code:
adb reboot bootloader
E: Now phone be in fastboot mode. Enter

Code:
fastboot oem unlock
F: This will wipe all data on internal storage. Now Enter

Code:
fastboot reboot
G: Now OS will get booted. Bootloader will be unlocked but phone should be in factory reset condition. So again enable “USB Debugging”.

THEN

2: Connect phone with pc in MTP mode and copy recovery.img to phone’s internal storage (Make sure to select MTP as always to avoid problem during procedure). Extract recowvery software. (If it causes permission problems extract it to USB device and perform process from there)

3: Run “EasyRecowvery.cmd”. Press “5” -->Enter then press “7” -->Enter to disable integrity check. Then enter “0” to go back. Skip it if you are using Recowvery G5 modified.

4: Now press “2” and wait until it says warning. Press “y” -->Enter. (It won't say warning in Recowvery G5 modified)

5: It will do rest process. After Flashing TWRP it will flash “no-opt-encrypt” (This is most important to save twrp from being removed by OS)

6: Phone will boot into TWRP. Here on phone it will ask for decrypt code. Cancel it. Swipe to allow modification.

7: On pc press any key, the flashing process on phone will automatically get started. Then it will reboot into OS.

8: To flash supersu, select option 3 from recowvery windows and phone will boot into twrp. Same as step 5-6 it will automatically flash supersu.
Now Your rooted and have twrp install.

Note: For removing Encryption.
To flash a custom rom and remove encryption in twrp, you need to once format data in twrp else you won’t be able to wipe and install any custom rom in your phone.

neeed a link to download recowvery

You had enough time to quote whole guide and write this stuff. But you didn't want to waste time on reading the guide carefully.
Man! It's in attachment of 2nd post. Read . If you won't read with care how are you supposed to root successfully. You will end up asking questions that are already in FAQ but you won't notice it because you will not read exactly what each step says. Anyways happy rooting.

The processto root is not working for me with Recowvery_G5_Modified method it gets stuck at rebooting to OS on the cmd window after getting into twrp on the phone and I have already hit cancel and swipe for modifications. Only way past this is to manually reboot to OS from the twrp menu. When it is time to install supersu root when phone tries to load twrp I get "No command" error.

Then I try "EasyRecowvery-1.3b3" and it gets stuck at "press any key to continue..." after I have already hit cancel and swipe for modifications on the phone with twrp. Yes I already hit a key to continue on the cmd window and it just freezes there. I put either recowvery method in the root directory of my partition in windows. I just cannot get this finished...

Hello. I've had a G6 awhile now and would like to follow this guide and root my old G5. The only issue I'm having is; I cannot seem to find a guide on how to downgrade my current Software version; "H83020o" to 3020a. I have already acquired 3020a from "downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G5/H830/H83020a" etc; Bootloader is already unlocked; I just need a complete downgrade guide and I'll be good to go. Sorry if it was right in front of me and I missed it.
EDIT: Found it! https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/uppercut-lgup-loader-g5-variants-t3511295

Good to go!
https://ibb.co/hkrfOc
https://ibb.co/b4oibx

about to root.
EDIT 2:
Success! I got that permissions error but; the process worked flawlessly via USB. Thank you!!
