Upgrad from MIUI 8 to CM 13.1 !

Thank you!
After upgrading Mi4C to MIUI 8 (which is a disaster) i was not able to unlock the bootloader and was not able to downgrade. Xiaomi unlock tool got stuck at 50% and I was not able to progress for 2 weeks.
This guide resolved my issues. I've installed CM 13.1 finally!!

Mi4c Bootloader Unlock Guide

New to Android (iOS + OS X) and I have to say, although it is well-organized :good:, I do not find this to be a particularly comprehensive, STEP-BY-STEP guide for me.
I do understand bits and pieces of it, but more specifics would be incredibly helpful - I cannot tell, for example, if you are using a PC or not ('exe' file in 'Requirements').
Am planning to purchase a Xiaomi Mi4c phone shortly, with the hope of eventually flashing a CM Nougat-based ROM (firmware) onto it.
And I would like to be able to do it, using the phone only (no access to a PC), so a more elaborate guide would be truly appreciated!

Thank you!

Massive thanks to the OP for this. Recently got a Mi4C and the ram management in MIUI is so irritating, Cyanogen Mod is much better. I did this from step 2 coming from 7.5.4.0 which is the latest available version on MIUI for this phone, worked like a charm.

Does it still work on MIUI8? Can I brick my phone with this?
"fastboot oem edl" working confirmed on 6.8.25.

I had an issue at next step "Use MiFlash to flash 6.1.7 image", when Miflash couldn't open COM-port.
Unfortunately I can't find topic on miui.com with similar questuin, but latest Miflash beta-version resolved this problem.

All next steps passed fine.

try different port, restart your pc (on your case pc didn't recognized the QHSusb 9008 mode), reinstall miflash, disable driver signature on Win8 above

Hi, I tried to follow your guide, but unfortunately I'm already on MiUi 8, 6.9.1, China Developer Rom. The problem is, when ever I wan't to flash with MiFlash to Rom 6.1.7 (or any other Rom, same thing), MiFlash shows an error after a while: "ping target failed". Up to this point everything works, but I can't flash my Mi4C... what can I do?

Thank you!

//EDIT: Solved the problem for myself: Just use MiFlash Beta, instead of the normal version! Then the flashing works perfectly!!!

i already follow all the steps from 1-4 (including downgrade my rom into 6.1.21)
the command (fastboot oem edl) has working and the phone screen turn black, i open my miflash and its recognize my phone
but when i have chose the fastboot image and flash it, it says "ping target failed"
can any one give me some clue what should i do?
even i already ask for permission legallty to unlock the bootloader, its not gonna easy because my rom right now (6.1.21) is not developer mode. so what i should do?

One more here that sucessfully unlocked Mi4c bootloader! :)

Only thing I did different from this tutorial, as someone already mentioned, was using MiFlash beta. MiFlash was returning the "ping error".

Before the process I had V7.1.4.0.LXKCNCK installed.

Thank you wolkenjaeger! ;)

dear fellow mi4c users,

is it possible to have internal storage partition into 2 ? so i could have 1 "internal storage" that could be wiped when i clean installed new rom and 1 "external storage" that no need to be wiped when installed new rom?

I tired of copying my data (10gb) to otg first everytime i installed new rom

many thx

hardbricked through attempted unlock

Perfect, Step 1 has hardbricked my phone into -not charging - not even starting phone. I tried to fast-boot and flash from MIUI 8. Now I am ****ed.

- now my phone won't even start despite MiFlash reported a successful flash operation, but after initial reboot brought me back into MIUI 8 (so no downgrade actually happened) ... then I powered it off and phone went dead - no boot, not even charging LED fires up anymore---any advice?

Cheers

I used your guide, and I managed to flash cm13.1 successfully. One thing though, after unlocking bootloader, I didn't know the key combination for booting in recovery mode, MIUI booted instead and replaced the TWRP with MI recovery, so I did this: instead of long pressing power button after flashing TWRP, I used the command fastboot boot recovery twrp.......img. Maybe you could add this step to make it easier for anyone. Thank you very much for this thread!

Worked fine! Was on MIUI 8.0.16.0 before, Shop was banggood.
A few additions:

- Make sure driver signature is off, else miflash won't work in EDL mode:
Press (Win) + (X) and enter following:
BCDEDIT –Set LoadOptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
(Enter)
BCDEDIT –Set TESTSIGNING ON
(Enter)
Reboot your Windows.

- ADB DriverInstaller didn't work for me, use "15 seconds adb installer 1.3.0" (somewhere mentioned above or google)

- Place the fastboot and adb files directly in a folder on C:, not on dekstop or somewhere else.

- Use miflash beta. Make sure when in Phone is in EDL mode that it is listed as COM Port in device-manager. If not try to install this driver:
