Hi again, what about 4c development future? Hardware seems to be pretty capable, but what stopping me a bit from getting is that i'am unsure about future support.
Would be nice to have original Marshmallow at least, why not if even original 4 has it already (or Xiaomi will support only flagships like Mi 4/5 etc), i was looking at 4S because of it, of course more storage and SD and sensor, design is ... But i'am not sure it justifies 90 EUR price difference to me. So i wonder what is development future for 4c or 4S?

The story is i need a phone, want to spend something about 200 EUR, as example 4c would cost me 220 and 4S about 310 (i could afford it if it is really really worth it) to compare A510F Galaxy A5 (2016) would cost 420 EUR here .I don't want really much from phone but don't see point in getting something more or less descent for ~150 EUR when i can spend a bit more a get pretty good phone like 4c.

What i think is most important is replaceable battery (as i know it is possible on 4c after some unscrewing) and good future support, i don't mind using phone for 3-4 years if it lasts...

Thanks for opinion.

How do i know if the bootloader is locked?

If your computer already has drivers, fastboot installed, then just connect your Mi4C in fastboot mode (vol down + power) to your pc, go to the folder where fastboot.exe is located, open a command prompt there (shift + right click -> open windows here) and type:

fastboot devices (see if a number with letters appears, if yes then your device is seen)
fastboot oem device-info (with this command you'll know if it's locked or not).

If you don't have fastboot on your PC, I recommend you this little package: ADB TOOLKIT.

I think that for 200€ you can buy a very decent phone. Now here in Italy I can find in for 211€ (prime version). In my opinion it will last long, Mi4S is not so impressive and doen't have much more for 100€ difference. If you already checked all the phones with that budget in your area, then I totally recommend Mi4C (with 3gb RAM). The development section will grow up hopefully, because just a month ago the sources of Mi4C were released, thus the devs are "welcomed". For sure Xiaomi will upgrade Mi4C to Marshmellow, and maybe also Android N, who knows.
Replacing the battery should not be a big issue, I just changed the back cover of my gf's Mi4C, and I saw the battery which is quite accessible.

Using fastboot oem edl seems to switch the phone off as the device no longer appears in the device list of miflash so cannot flash the 6.1.7 image.

i installed v6.1.21 prior to this.. anyone any ideas??

when I do "fastboot oem edl" I get:
C:\>fastboot oem edl
...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 0.008s

"device-info" says my mi4c is locked:
C:\>fastboot oem device-info
...
(bootloader) Device tampered: false
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
(bootloader) Display panel:
OKAY [ 0.042s]
finished. total time: 0.044s

I received my Mi4c (yesterday) with Stable 7.0.16.0.0 LXKCN CI. I noted that
a) it doesn't update to the latest stable. Is this normal?
b) only 1.8GB (of 3) free when running no app. 1.2G for MIUI is IMHO a lot!

I have not installed any (Qualcomm?) specific drivers. Is this a must for "fastboot oem edl" to work?
Yep bro, i guess, do it 5 min only next next, next and finish the installation, put your device in debugging mode and when you plug it to the PC, allow the communication with the PC, turn off, and put it in fastboot mode, then type the commands

You've already installed the drivers and active it debbugin mode? Also only works for non brick devices

Drivers are installed but from other posts i've read i should see Qualcomm.. in the COM ports section in device manager but i don't.

The phone is not bricked as it works normally... and debugging mode is on in the phone settings.

Executed the drivers again and delete them, then install them again, and try a second time when I did I was on official developer 6.3.17 it should be work
