If you're on a custom ROM, Pixel Visual Core Service will not update automatically via the Play Store. I've had issues sideloading the APK to the latest version until I discovered this workaround. If you're getting an "App Not Installed" error message when updating the APK on custom ROMs, here's how to update:

Requires Root
  1. Uninstall the existing Pixel Visual Core Service with a root system app uninstaller. I used this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.rootuninstaller
  2. Reboot phone
  3. Download the latest PVCS APK to your internal sd card: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/pixel-visual-core-service/
  4. Install it with a file manager and it should install successfully.

I'm on Stock Pie and last night I literally just downloaded the latest Pixel Visual Core app and updated normally no problem, not sure if this will work with Oreo but you can try, the worst that will happen is that the update fails.

I wanted to shoot this thread a quick thanks, it led me to investigate and figure out why this happens on custom roms.
Seems to happen on Stock as well, I know there are only 3 versions of Pixel Visual Core in total, but loaded up September Stock Pie yesterday and noticed the version was STILL from February and not the March build.

Here is a question since it's a system app and by uninstalling and reinstalling as user app, would break its applications? Can other apps still make full use of it.?
