When i just reboot it without the volume keys, it just reboots. I make sure the files are in the right directory every time ive tried.

Just want to make sure I have this right.

I'm on 10.4.2.20 NA TF300T 32GB version. I would start from step 3 download the two files and extract the fastboot recovery files. Connect my tablet and Open a command prompt. Make sure I am in the folder and then type adb reboot bootloader to get my tablet into the bootloader. Type the respectable command for which recovery I want. After that just go into recovery and install the root file. Install super user app of choice and Call it a day.

It's that right? Will I need to unlock the bootloader still (didn't see it in this guide) and I'll need the android sdk for adb right?

You almost have it...

Unlock the bootloader first yes, with the APK from asus, no other way to unlock other than this...after that...
Follow what you said with one minor correction. After you "adb reboot-bootloader" (yes there's a hyphen in there), you will be presented with the bootloader screen on your tablet. Push the vol down button until you've highlighted the USB icon, then press vol up. You are now in fastboot mode.
Still connected to your PC, try typing "fastboot devices" if you get a response of a serial number, then you're good... now flash your recovery of choice:

fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery <recoveryfilename.blob> You now have recovery, after the flash is done, type "fastboot reboot-bootloader", you get the bootloader screen again, this time press vol up with the RCK icon already highlighted, and you should be taken into your recovery of choice.

Thanks! Just finished rooting and everything went smoothly. Only thing was after installing the recovery I had to power down and go back into the bootloader.

Yes that was the idea to test and make sure it worked. Sounds like it did. Well done.

This might be a stupid question but would this guide still apply for those who have officially updated to 4.2? Obviously not the upgrading to jellybean parts, but the instructions after that? Would they still work?

I have a rooted, unlocked bootloader on tf300t. Is there any specific way to upgrade to 4.2? Or can I just do ota?

If you are already in 4.2, why you need to upgrade your TF ?

2 solutions:

- If you are in Stock, you can wait for the OTA, but you have a lot of chance to lose your Unlock and your root (for your root, backup it with OTA Rootkeeper, and maybe you can restore your root after the update)

- If you use a custom rom, you don't have access to OTA update...

I meant for if you wanted to install a custom ROM. Would this guide work for those already on 4.2 from part 3 onwards?

Normally, yes, it would.
But I haven't test it before, cause my TF300 is for my son and he always plays with ;)
Thanks:)

Hi, i'm newbie here.
My TF300TL (4G/LTE) model come with stock 4.1.1, so which step I should start from?
Please advise and I really totally new to "how to flash" on my TF300T.

another question is, do I need to unlock my device first before can root?
If yes, how to check my device is locked or unlocked, thanks.

Appreciate and thanks in advance.

TWRP

I have had my tablet for a few months and after much reading I decided to root. Thanks to this thread I am stock 10.4.2.20 root with TWRP 2.3.1.0. I am looking to install a custom rom. I will prolly go with a stock based rom. I am just wanting to double check a few things. There are some threads stating to use different version of twrp to install certain roms.

For whatever reason I am double guessing flashing my first rom on a tablet.. I have flashed many on phones.

Is there 1 stable TWRP version to install both custom roms and stock based roms?

Or do I need a certain version for each? If, so which version would you recommend?

CleanROM is saying go with TWRP 2.4.1.0

Thanks...

I have a few questions regarding unlocking and root the tf300t. The main reason that I want to root it is so I can use my PS3 controller with it.

If I root the tablet can I no longer do the OTA updates or do they just wipe out my root?

If I unlock and root it can I still update it to 4.2.1 (currently running 4.1.1)? If so how would I do that, assuming I can't just use the OTA update?
