Re: [GUIDE]Upgrade your TF300t to Jellybean, recovery, root & remove bloatware[Noobpr

I have a few questions regarding unlocking and root the tf300t. The main reason that I want to root it is so I can use my PS3 controller with it.

If I root the tablet can I no longer do the OTA updates or do they just wipe out my root?

If I unlock and root it can I still update it to 4.2.1 (currently running 4.1.1)? If so how would I do that, assuming I can't just use the OTA update?
If u unlock, you can't get otas any longer but you can still flash the latest builds from Asus if you want. Doing this wipes your root and recovery but being unlocked, you can flash it back easily.

I don't know the 4.2.1 question as Asus hasn't posted the entire ROM on their site which is what unlocked people need.

So I can follow this with success running 4.2.1 and stock everything (no root, BL Locked, stock recovery)?
I'm not sure it's been confirmed with 4.2.1 yet.

Rumor has it that 4.2.1 update did something funky with the encryption of partitions. Right now I don't think there is a way to root it as twrp and cwm aren't fully functional yet. My guess is it will be possible eventually, just have to wait until the update is released on the Asus site so that more folks here (devs) can get a hold of it and work it out.

Alright. Well I just got the thing ($129 mint "new" with dock thrown in for free!!) so I'm enjoying it stock anyway. I'll wait until 4.2.1 is officially supported for this.

i have a VERY difficult time with extracting and placing appropriatly

I want to do this soo badly-i right clicked as you said and it extracted (i think) but i have no idea where the extraction files are and then place the the correct file in the fastboot files where are ..."i dont know"....i am sooo sorry for sounding like a doof but I am

seems like i cant do adb @ all i am not well-versed in fastboot abd commands....

2) Extract the recovery with fastboot files zip and open a command prompt in the same folder of the adb and fastboot files (Shift + Right mouse)
3) Reboot into the bootloader of your tablet, type: adb reboot bootloader
4) When your tablet has reached the bootloader navigate with volume down to the usb icon and press volume up to confirm.
5) To flash the recovery type:
- TWRP: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery tf300t-jb.blob
- CWM: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery CWM-Touch.blob

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

I can confirm success with it. I started unlocked and rooted on 4.1.1 then upgraded. The only hangup is you need the special version of tarp to flash after you install. Even if you want just root, you must unlock the bootloader to be able to flash it in.

How can I know which is the SKU of my tf300t? I have unlocked it, installed CWR, and installed CM nightlies . Now I want to switch to stock JB.
The fact is that I bought it in USA, but I´m in Spain and I want spanish language. Should I flash WW or US version of ASUS firmware?
Thanks

You can flash either, but prefer an US version, if you want to return to stock.

So I need some help with this... I have tried to flash for root and it SAYS successful but nothing is installed and when I try and install SuperSU it says THERE IS NO DIRECTORY for SU. Could use some help....

Also says in log before rebooting that it can't mount E:\XXXX... whereas XXXX is a couple of places, including cache.

Re- download and try again

if i bought a tf300 with jellbean 4.1 installed, can i skip to step 3 or?
Use this part ;)

1) Download these 2 files:
- Jellybean recovery with fastboot files: Fastboot files + JB recovery
- Root files (Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed) => Root files
- You can also download the new CWM Touch recovery if you don't like TWRP: CWM Touch recovery thread or TWRP recovery and download this file : openrecovery-twrp-2.5.5.0-tf300t-JB.img or openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-JB.blob

- TWRP: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp.blob
- CWM: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery CWM-Touch.blob

6) A blue bar will appear and the recovery will be installed, when the blue bar is filled press volume up + power button to reboot into the tablet.

Now we will root the tablet

7) Copy Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed to the internal storage of your tablet. then reboot into the bootloader again.
8) This time you need to select the RCK icon with volume up to enter the recovery image.
9) In recovery flash Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed and reboot into the system
10) Install Supersu from Google Play
11) Open up Supersu, it will ask you to update the binary, choose yes.
12) Now your tablet should be rooted [/I]

*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*

If you want to push the TWRP recovery by Terminal emulator which is really fast and sure, its:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
exit
*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*

In case you have some problem with SuperSu, just uninstall, wipe cache and dalvik, reboot and re-install via Google play. you will update the binaries, after you will ok.
