I crossflashed a sim-unlocked Sprint V40 8.1 bought in China to US Unlocked Pie 20a but got stuck on the setup wizard: after signing into wifi it gets stuck on Checking for updates, can't get past this screen. I'm still in China and the sim card seems to work, registering LTE, but can't get into the phone. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Well China is anti Google I'm pretty sure it's the Google startup of the phone....so it may not be connecting...

I have one too. If you're in China, you're going to need to have access to a router with VPN access, or use another cell phone running a VPN capable tether app (this is what I did; use my V30 with tethered VPN).
