Troubleshooting

Error:
Code:
fastboot: error: Command failed logo__a: not found
If you look at your log you can see that the name of the partitions are wrong, they have a double__underscore. So you should try copying the commands in the flashall one at a time and adjust accordingly.
For example say you post the command fastboot flash logo logo.bin and it returns fastboot: error: Command failed logo__a: not found
You know it's trying to flash the _a slot, which is fine so tell it to do so manually fastboot flash logo_a logo.bin

Error: Unlocked bootloader reported as locked in fastboot mode after failed custom from install.
Solution:
  • Download current blankflash file
  • Download current firmware
  • Boot device to EDL Mode
    Code:
    fastboot oem blankflash
  • run blankflash.bat
  • Reinstall firmware

I had the same issues he described. Make sure Qualcomm QDLoader drivers are installed. While in that ap fastboot mode use fastboot oem blankflash command. The phone will reboot to blankflash mode. Then use the correct blankflash. All that oem locked, invalid partition, remote failure will be gone, fixed. I learned this in Telegram group Moto G7 Power Support

Troubleshooting

Bootloader warning
No bootable A/B Slot and OEM locked device

Apparently this results from a faulty partition table - maybe caused by an update. And because Lenovo's/Motorola's Rescue and Smart Assistant "LMSA" fails to solve the problem, the only option for oem-locked devices is to use fastboot to flash the original partition table from a stock image onto the device.

So first you have to download an original stock image
and extract gpt.bin to your working directory. From there execute

fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear

Then restart the device and it should boot again as usual, with all your apps and data still there.

Downgrading Android Version on Moto Devices

Unlocking the bootloader
may cause certain apps like Banking Apps to stop working.
Because some apps check for things like that.

If you downgrade the firmware, do not allow OTA updates to install,
Your device will not update correctly. and may brick.

Unlock the Bootloader

Once the bootloader is unlocked, find your
Software Channel, it will be like, Retail, RetUS, Verizon, MetroPCS...

You can find your firmware here

download. and Unzip it

Check if your device uses fastbootd

Flash option 1
Find the flashfile.xml in the firmware folder
and use the online flashfile converter to get the flash commands
add the fastboot reboot fastboot commands if you have a fasbootd device.

Flash Option 2
Install LMSA
use the rescue option to download the current firmware for your device
move the LMSA firmware to a different folder
rename the Android 10 firmware folder to the same name as LMSA firmware.
Move that folder to the LMSA download folder
Use the rescue option to flash renamed firmware.

There is no guarantee that either method will work, but it should.

I do not recommend relocking moto bootloaders, Even if you follow the directions for relocking
It can still go wrong, and you can end up with a non-working device.

On the phone
Toggle off the "install updates" option in Dev Options

I need some help. I tried flashing a GSI, for which I was unsuccessful. I then tried using LMSA to go back to stock, but it fails around 50%. I used fastboot to go back to stock, however when I flash vbmeta, it tells me there is no such image in the directory even though there is. It also will not boot into fastbootd. It says " one or more components may be unbootable". So I cant use LMSA and I cant use fastboot. Please help me I am stuck.

What does getvar all say? (remove IMEI before posting it)
Code:
fastboot getvar all

There are a few options for updating (Non-OTA)

RSD Lite (using Windows XP/7)
Remove This line from flash_file.xml with Notepad++ then save
Code:
<step operation="erase" partition="userdata"/>
LMSA (Update option or Rescue)
The update option does not wipe data
Fastboot.exe
Just do not use this command
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
LMSA is the easiest option if you have a Windows PC

How to find the Device Model #, codename and software channel.

Motorola has different Firmware based on the Model/codename and Software Channel.

There are a few different ways to find the device codename and software channel.
    • Settings/About phone
    • DevCheck
      • System tab: Device= codename, SKU = model #
    • List of Motorola Codenames
    • bootloader info (This isn't always real clear)

      Preferred Method
    • Fastboot getvar all method (Device must be in AP Fastboot Flash Mode)

    Using fastboot.exe with MediaTek Devices

There's a special flash tool for MediaTek Devices
SP Flash Tool see post #24

It appears for a/b slot devices, slot a should be set as active.
    Like this
    Code:
    fastboot set_active a

Example of full command for Motorola MediaTek devices

    Code:
    fastboot devices
    fastboot set_active a
    fastboot getvar max-sparse-size
    fastboot oem fb_mode_set
    fastboot flash gpt PGPT
    fastboot flash preloader preloader.bin
    fastboot flash lk_a lk.img
    fastboot flash lk_b lk.img
    fastboot flash tee_a tee.img
    fastboot flash tee_b tee.img
    fastboot flash md1img_a md1img.img
