Hey guys, I am trying to help a friend out with his Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II and he has wiped his partitions. I want to rebuild the partition structure, but I want to leave the bootloader unlocked and still use the VRUEMJ9 radio. I have downloaded the VRUEMJ9.tar.md5, can I just remove sboot.bin, replace recovery.img with a custom image and flash it and the pit file with odin to get where I can wipe it from recovery and flash a new 4.3 rom?

Odin Flashable 4.4.2 firmware

Is it a way to flash the 4.4.2 firmware via odin. I have softbricked my phone and it is saying something about taking it to Verizon Wireless. I bought this phone off of ebay and I know for a fact that Verizon wont help me. I flash a bum recovery, which is why I need this firmware. Please pm me. I need help with this as soon as possible.

If you recently purchased it, chances are that it has the Verizon 4.3 update that totally locked the bootloader. (Read section 1a in the op) . You should be able to Odin the factory image back on & start from there. Then use the Safestrap method in the future. Not knowing where it was, I'll assume it had that locked bootloader. Can you get into recovery? Did you make a backup? Hopefully you get it working.

I was playing around with Rom manager wanting to download recovery and soft bricked mine. I'm running 4.3 and I got mine back with Odin. Then I had to root phone again.

I got a Note 2 from Ebay and it has the 4.4.2 update already installed. Is it a way to go back to an earlier firmware? If not, how can I obtain root access?

Mr McIntosh try safestrap. I haven't really kept up with things but the last I heard the boot loader is still locked but you can root the phone and use apps like titanium backup.

I am like Mr McIntosh in that I just got a Note 2 with the 4.4.2 update. Of course I did not research and automatically assumed there would be methods to custom ROM the phone. As with most phones, I guess the brightest move on to the newer phones and challenges of rooting.

I did manage root using ghettoroot, however, it looks like I will not be able to throw custom ROMs on it because of the locked bootloader. If anyone finds a way to get custom ROMs on the GN2 with 4.4.2 please give a shout!

For those of you who don't know.Google implemented an SD card write restriction on 4.4.

After the 4.4.2 kit Kat update any app that doesn't come pre-installed on your phone, either by Google, Samsung, or your carrier, will lack write privileges to the external SD card. Third-party cameras and image editors won't be able to save photos. Music players like doubleTwist, whose developers have made a plea for its users to complain to phone manufacturers, can't sync music to your SD card. This has probably been answered, what would happen if I flashed 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 with odin over a pre installed 4.4.2?

I'm guessing a soft brick until 4.4.2 is flashed with odin?

Not sure why it wouldn't work since the files that get flashed overwrite the boot files too.

Nothing is working now, root wont work,casual wont work, i cant install a recovery. Every time i try any of this stuff it bricks. I have so many of the files downloaded i am lost. I had 24 and 26 on my sd card but some how got corrupted. It shows 0 bytes as the file size. I had some issues with sd card and screwed up a lot of my files a while back.

I have ran Odin and flashed the stock MJ9 rom, try to run casual (r515 I think is the version) casual fails. Ends up bricking the phone.

Let me know if this works. I'm considering returning this phone if I'm stuck on 4.4.2. Otherwise, it'd definitely be worth keeping.

I was told it would brick, 4.4.2 isn't so bad, I hardly notice I'm not rooted anymore and have found alternatives in the play store, there are exceptions when I need a app that needs root.

I might root later...
