I used the method in the OP to recover from a soft brick. I was running 4.4.2 rooted with towelroot. I flashed the 5.0 file through Odin. Can I do this same process again but flash the 4.4.2 file so I can regain root? I didn't upgrade to 5.0 via OTA so I'm hoping this is possible.

I tried to flash Jasmine ROM and my bootloader got returned to stock (although I kept root access). Not sure how that happened, but my phone was working fine anyway. Then I decided to reflash TWRP and now my phone is soft bricked because it detected a custom bootloader.

I've tried to reflash stock ROMs for MJ7 and NC4 but get SW REV CHECK errors. (pretty sure I rooted on NC4 using towelroot originally)

my question is, is there any way to flash the stock bootloader without flashing the entire stock image?

Or is there any way to totally reset my phone other than flashing a stock image? I don't want to flash 4.4.4 or 5.0 because then I'll permanently lose root.

or does anyone know the status of root on verizon lollipop?

Need some assistance. A friend said his Note 3 was just charging. He hasn't installed apps lately. He decided to reboot, and upon booting it says "System software not authorized by Verizon...". I've followed the steps in post #1. I've tried OB6. It flashes successfully (with and without the PIT file), but then when it boots, it shows the same. I'm unable to go to recovery mode either. It just says "Recovery Booting...", then it says "Secure Fail: Recovery" and the same "System software not authorized..." message.

Thanks in advance.

There's a newer stock firmware (N900VVRUEOF1) that might work. It's available at http://www.sammobile.com.

Also... if you have a Best Buy near you with one of those Samsung reps in the store, you might be to take it there and see if the Samsung rep could flash it back to stock. I read in a different post where someone said the Samsung rep at his local Best Buy was helpful and reflashed his phone for free when it was soft bricked.

I bought a VZW Note 3 that has not taken an OTA, since being on 4.4.2, but is currently on Jasmine ROM 6.1, which shows Android 5.0 and OF1 bootloader and baseband in SAMSUNG PHONE INFO app.

Can I follow this op using the NC4 and safely get back to 4.4.2, where I'll be able to root with towelroot and flash Alliance ROM?

ETA: I came to the conclusion that this prob could not be accomplished and returned the Note 3, because I didn't want to risk bricking it and surely didn't want to live with lollipop and all of its whiteness, on menus and notification icons.
Today, I am to receive a Note 3, that is actually on 4.4.2!
ALLIANCE ROM here I come!

couple of questions

I was trying to upgrade my kitkat rooted n900v to one of the newer 5.x roots and didn't notice a comment on the rom about not using it with safestrap. End result was a boot loop so I grabbed the first current OTA I could find to get the phone useable again. It's the 5.0 which took my root out and seems to be rather stubborn unrooting.

So, I'm in the process of trying to chase down an original 4.3 image that will work on this phone. (I've tried one 4.4 and two 4.3 images and they fail on auth checks). Since some of these things are now growing old, a lot of the thread links are dead and I have to get them from throttled pay-to-play websites. Not even knowing if they will work, I'm reluctant to give my CC info to god knows who in god knows where. So I want to try to narrow down the search and have some questions.

First, I see some comments in the 4.3 range about developer vs. non-developer variants of the phone. How do you know if yours is a developer variant? (I picked mine up used)
Second, is there any way to narrow down which Rom I should look for? The hardware is listed as N900V.07
Third, sometimes I see Odex vs De-Odex - huh?

You have lost root forever. You can only ODIN back to 4.4.4 and that can not be rooted.

Yeah, I figured that out around 3am last night when I finally learned what the SW aboot error on the screen meant. Needless to say I have a clean, verizon note iii on the latest OTA up for sale! Anyone have a recommendation for a good, rootable phone? lol (any opinions on the ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE551ML?)
