How do I recommend you as a contributor to XDA? Is there a form or something. I don't know how to do it.

Not sure If i'm worthy but i always shared my knowledge and barely asked for Donations or Something over all the Years Here. I co-worked with other Devs and explained a Lot of stuff, besides writing Guides and providing Sources. I did all of that Out of Passion and friendlyness and not for a Title. But it would be an Honor to me to get recognized By other Members over this Title. I think You can Just Report My Posts to Moderators and explain that to them. Would be very thankful for that!

I'm about unlocking my new Xperia 5.
Now I wonder, if I should upgrade it to the last fw before unlocking, or is it better to unlock it out of the box (it is still maiden :p)?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions :good:

Edit:
First of all, updated/upgraded to the current fw (...3.149), then unlocked the bootloader. Right after that, I've installed the corresponding patched_boot.img provided in this thread, rebooted into system and installed Magisk Manager. As I want to modify system (e.g. debloating), I had to patch the boot.img again with dm-verity disabled, ofc (I took the boot.img of my fw for that).

@Miustone
Is it mandatory to flash the patched_boot.img on both slots a and b?
Btw, many thanks for this thread, your efforts and providing your work for the community - very appreciated :cowboy:

You're welcome Mate, think actually is that at least something i can do for our Community. (Since TWRP is struggling with Android 10)
And Yes, it is mandatory since You can end up with Bootloops or an unroot Situtation in some Cases (Eg. with updating Magisk or GSIs).

Did you patch it before updating the firmware?
If you provide us the boot_X-FLASH-blabla.sin, we could patch it for you ;)

Help me flashing this. With .149 i followed the first post and I had a magisk manager pre installed
I just dl the patch team match end ran the fast boot commands.
Rebooted and phone rooted.

With the new firmware it just bootloops. Yes I have a patched firmware from another member.

Don't understand why it bootloops? 1. Magisk manager. Should I install it afterwards? Help me ..this is my 5th Sony..maybe it is a newbie question.. ;)

I have sent you a pm :D

Edit:
I presume that you've already unlocked the bootloader of your device, otherwise it will never work ;)
Haha. Yes I have. Lol.
Sent you PM's btw.
I had root with .149 but with newest firmware it loops

Well, maybe you gave me the wrong boot.img. The boot.img has to be from the same fw version you've installed...

As we don't have a recovery for this device yet, I'd suggest it would be the best, if you install the whole fw again (also userdata).
Good luck!

In addition, this is not really related to this thread; therefore we shouldn't spam it. If you need further help, please use the search function. If you find no solution, it's the best to open your own thread ;)

On my xperia xz1, I just flashed twrp after an android update then ran the magisk zip in twrp and it would patch my boot.img. No special kernel or update needed. Wonder if that could work.
