Do you by chance have the Android version of the Yoga Book? This guide will unfortunately not enable Windows to be installed on the Android variant.

That explains a lot and yes, I do have the android version. Thank you for clearing that up for me
I am sorry I couldn't be more help. I wish I could be the one to enable a true dual boot scenario for this machine! With the two versions having a completely different BIOS I think I'll leave that to someone with a bit more skill and deeper pockets

Make sure you have selected the proper version of Windows 10. If you have a 64GB hard drive you have the older Yoga Book that came with the home edition. The Yoga Book that has a 128GB hard drive comes with the pro edition. This would cause the issues you are having. Using an ISO not downloaded with the tools from the 1st post may also cause issues if they have been modified.

The only other time you may see variation from this is if you upgrade Windows yourself using a retail ISO like I have. Got Pro for $14.00  Now when I install it ask me for a product key. The first time I installed it I actually had to insert the product key. Since I use a Microsoft account everytime after the first install I skip inserting the product key and Windows pulls it from my Microsoft account automatically.
Yea I should of realized, after recompiling the Win 10 Home ISO the license check didn't show up, but the installation would hang up around half-way. After troubleshooting with different OTG cables/flash drives I finally a combo that wouldn't hang up. Works great, feels faster but that's probably just a placebo. Cheers mate!

Another EDIT:
And it seems that something in the recent Windows Update breaks auto-rotation, since the Auto Rotate button disappeared in settings/quick settings/etc. Same thing happened to my HP Stream 8 when updating W10 earlier this month too. Even doing registry edits/reinstalling drivers won't fix this.

Last Edit:
So after reinstalling Windows using the same method and testing an install using Windows Update vs Not Updating, it appears that something in the recent Windows Updates IS breaking auto rotate. A clean install with no updates should keep auto rotate functional, however.

Thank you for the heads up. I will see if my YB is updated/affected and we'll post back later.

Worth reinstall from factory?

Damn man it runs so nice and smooth now. I love this thing more and more as I use it.
Hi all, first thanks to OP for guide! :good:
Second - about to take delivery of refurbished YB. Is it still worth doing a reinstall of windows from "factory"? Is the Lenovo bloatware bad enough that removal will make a significant difference?

I would. I used it for a bit then loaded up this guy’s version and it’s noticeably faster and a bit easier on ram.

DO IT

Oh and good choice on the Yoga Book. I love this thing.

Looks like it was formatted incorrectly. Not sure about the scheme (GPT or MBR) but it was formatted as NTFS.

I'm re-doing it now with GPT and FAT32. Fingers crossed.

UPDATE: It's working now with GPT and FAT32. Thanks again man. You made this SO EASY! I'm excited for a fresh install. Next stop: blackviper.com for some tuning ;)
Might be worth adding this to the RUFUS section of the setup guide, as I fell into this trap as well. Default settings for RUFUS when I ran it were NTFS and [something that wasn't GPT].

Having said that...installing right now, fingers crossed, thanks again to Sandman45654!

Windows reinstall went very well, thanks to OP for creating something that just works, and would otherwise have been extremely time-consuming and frustrating I'm sure.
After reading a variety of online reviews and guides, I've tried to stick to mobile type apps (e.g. mobile version of Office). Have also got a micro SD mounted as a VHD to try to conserve space on the main drive.
Keyboard and touchpad not as terrible as I was anticipating...but early days yet, we shall see how that goes.
Overall - I'm feeling very positive about this. Going interstate with work next week, looking forward to see how this setup holds up.

Just wanted to say thanks, this worked perfectly! And it's even better than the default Windows installation that came with my Yoga Book - for example, the Halo Keyboard app has more options.

I used the 'English (International)' iso as I'm in the UK, and this worked fine. I noticed OP asserted a few times in this thread that Win 10 Pro is only for the 128GB model - actually, my 64GB device came with Win 10 Pro (you can tell by checking if there's a 'Pro' hologram sticker on the back of the device.)

The first time I tried my USB stick, I told it to overwrite the existing Windows installation, and process failed after a few minutes (and corrupted the existing installation). The second time, I formatted the main partition first, then installed it on there, and everything went without a hitch. :victory:

My Yoga Book now feels more responsive than ever, and seems to be fully functional. Thanks very much for putting the effort into making this guide.

Thanks a ton for all of the feedback! It is very much appreciated. I will update the guide shortly with instructions on determining which version of Windows is currently installed to help prevent any confusion/problems.
I wish I had done a benchmark on the original Windows install vs. the Windows install this creates. Several have mentioned that it seems to make the YB much snappier. I've used NTLite to strip out over 200 components so my Book is definitely running smoother :) I didn't plan on posting this when I began putting this together so benchmarking never even crossed my mind.

I apologize for missing your post. I've been really busy trying to fix up my new (to me) car. I am glad you found this helpful :) I would love to hear how things have held up! With practice you can actually learn to "touch type" on the Yoga Book, My accuracy is up to about 80% and I don't even type that much with the Halo keyboard. I think its funny some will happily type on a screen but complain about the Halo keyboard. The experience is virtually the same except the keyboard puts your hands/wrist in a more natural position and you don't lose half your screen. Personally I have more issue with the touchpad's usability than I do the keyboard. It is tiny so I honestly expected it.

You are very welcome my friend. IIRC either FAT32 or NTFS should work. The critical part is the GPT partitioning. Once I verify this I will update the guide with this in mind.

Hi Sandman

your guide sounds great and I want to try it.
But...is there a way to go back to Android after instaling Window 10? Or is your guide only for the Windows version of Yoga Book?

Had to make this change as well.

I had to take these steps when making the drive as well. It did work perfectly after that though! You might want to note this in the main instructions, at least in the notes. I was very disheartened at first when things weren't working after all those steps.

thanks for replying.

This only works with the Windows Yoga Book, sorry.

Thanks for the feedback. I will update the guide and add a screenshot tomorrow ;)
