I have uploaded a new version of the Yoga Book Setup Files. The build process remains unchanged. The new version prompts the user to wait for Windows 10 installation to complete and then automatically reboots once everything has been installed. These changes were made to help prevent the user from rebooting too soon causing the MSI files not to install properly. I believe this may be why a couple of users have had issues with haptic feedback in the past.

If anyone has any issues with the new setup please let me know so I can remedy the situation.

Hello. I am so glad to have found this tutorial! I've been collecting Yoga Book drivers including the Japanese mod for the hall keyboard but I didn't have any idea how to reinstall Windows in case **** happens.

Anyway, I'm also new to NTLite. I've tried reading some discussions about it. It seems you've been a user for some time and very familiar with it.

Right now I'm on the latest of everything - drivers, Windows and MS Office 365. Can I use NTLite to remove the items you've listed in the OP to increase it's performance without messing up on future updates? I just wanna customize Windows that specific for Yoga Book use. I love my YB and I wanna make it future proof.

Also, do you really believe that Windows Defender is not that good?

Thanks in advance and I hope this isn't that off topic. Will try your tutorial soon.

I am very glad you've found this helpful :) I've been using NTLite off and on since the XP days! It really is an extremely useful and powerful program. The paid version will let you remove Windows components, the free version does not. I have been running my minimal install on 5 computers and have had zero issues with updates or anything else. The only thing the minimal build messes with is Microsoft games. Games like MS Solitaire, that use the Xbox components will not be able to login or use the leader board features. The games still run fine, just without the features mentioned. This really is the only issue I have noticed.

Windows Defender is decent (better than nothing) but for full protection I prefer something a little more full fledged. Personally, I'll pass on running two antivirus on an Atom processor!

I've included an NTLite Preset for removing components. Just drag and drop it into the paid version of the program to import the preset. Once your Windows source has been loaded double click the imported preset. The indicator next to the preset will turn green meaning the preset was applied. If you make any changes to what is removed be sure to save the preset. To do this right click the preset and select save.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

just to clarify, if i use the modified windows 10 that you provided in the OP, the one with unnecessary components removed, i wouldnt need the paid version of ntlite right? also, there wont be problems for future windows update? i wonder how it will affect the license. thanks!

You are correct, to flash the customized ISO you do not need the full version of NTLite. To use the preset a couple post up however you definitely need the full version. There are no issues with updates or with activation. Over the last 3 or so months I have honestly had only one issue. Just the one with regards to xbox games. I've left it this way for a few reasons 1. The error doesn't bother me as the games still run 2. If a post like this encourages someone become interested in tweaking at this level that is a win and 3. NTLite is worth the $$$ and the author deserves the compensation. For this reason the minimal build is not meant to be a one size fits all but the results are a completely usable installation, aimed at the minimalist. Honestly I doubt the average user would even notice any difference.

If anyone is wondering no, I am in no way affiliated with the creator of NTLite. I truly appreciate the effort that's put into this program! If he makes a few extra bucks and we have a few more happy Yoga Book owners all the better :)

Thanks for that. I also believe that the developer should be compensated too. I'm seeing more possible use for it. :) Oh boy I'm excited for my experiment now. :)

Thank you, that's gotta be the best comment I could hope for for a guide like this :victory: I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Properly tuned the Yoga Book is an impressively capable little machine.

Been trying to boot from USB but when i press Volume Up + Power it shows fastboot mode and i cant find any option to boot from USB.
Tried Volume Down + Power and it goes into a factory test mode and theres no option to boot from USB. Maybe it was patched?

Damn i just realized that i cant install Windows in the Android Yoga Book. :silly:

quick dumb question

If I use the stripped down ISO that you so kindly provided, do I still need to add the yoga book drives files and follow the complete procedures other than downloading from msft? Thanks in advance!

Thanks a ton

I have just followed this guide.
I bought a YB used, and when i tried to factory reset it, it asked for a Bitlocker code. The precious owner could not locate it, so i was kinda skrewed.

I did exactly what you described @Sandman45654, and so far it works. Windows is installing.
I did ot have a USB OTG adapter, so i did all this on a 64GB Micro SD card. Seems to work. I may just make a 8GB micro SD card with this one, just to have it if i ever need it.

A lot of thanks to you @Sandman45654
Now all we need is dual-boot with android :D

Edit: It totally worked. Im typing this from the YG right now.
One thing. The mobile broadband driver was not included, so i had to go and find that myself (yeah.. i have a tough life) Other than that. Working perfectly.

I'm glad to hear everything is working well for you! I will work on adding that driver. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned before. You will be able to inject that driver using NTLite as well, without doing a full rebuild. I will send you the files and a quick how to on updating your build. How is system responsiveness.

Depending on how you build the image you can actually go as low as a 4GB flash drive. Do they even charge for those anymore  ? With a decent speed drive the minimal install (with Microsoft account) only takes 20 minutes to make it to the desktop.

Given that this is the first time i try the device, i will say, its a little laggy. i may test out your minimal build just to see if that gives it a little more snap.
Do you have a paypal i can send a few bucks to for your time?

You've got to take into account the Yoga Book is a passively cooled atom processor ;) So it kind of fits under the right tool for the job! I have actually had up to 25 programs, including things like the latest version of Photoshop and MS Office running on the minimal build. Even though the system was using all but roughly 400MB of ram the system stayed completely responsive! Task switching was smooth and fast and the system quickly recovered all of the ram. I was curious as to what you thought for the simple reason is this is your first go with the Yoga Book. The minimal build does definitely seem faster but I haven't done any benchmarks as of yet. I wish I had a new stock Yoga Book to really calculate the difference. I honestly didn't think I would go public with the guide in the beginning so I never bothered.

While I really do appreciate your offer I think am going to decline. Just knowing this guide is actually helping people is all the return I am looking for :)
