10 post count
Not to harp too much on this whole 10-post count minimum thingy but how many of the hundreds of thousands who use this forum actually have useful information to contribute. Most of the questions asked by most of the users come in two types: people too lazy to use Google or another search engine, and people too lazy to read the previous posts (make use of the search forum/thread tool).
That being said, most of the people who know stuff and actually want to contribute go to where there are other like-minded people who have the knowledge and the work ethic to ask non-stupid or ignorant questions. These people form a somewhat happy core that works well amongst each other improving their various projects.
Now for any given noob who has the average consumer intelligence (in other words: not much) but wants to improve upon the device they bought; they are stuck reading through the many posts in the development fora (which we all know are more useful than the Q&A for most issues). In the unlikely event that the aforementioned noob cannot solve his/her problem by scouring through answers to questions that have already been asked, they are counseled to make "meaningful and useful contributions" to the xda community.
Forgive me, but I just don't understand how that makes sense. Someone needs help because they don't know the answer so they look through the posted answers (they are unable to post their question because there is a post-count minimum) and doesn't find a solution. Now this same person who is still having issues is supposed to make a meaningful contribution to another new user. If they had a meaningful response then they wouldn't have any questions to ask because they would have found the answer already and therefore would have no reason to post anything...
Now I don't really have a better solution and I'm really just ticked cause I am unable to root my phone and I want an accurate answer to my problem to come immediately. I also do understand that there are a ton of users who visit this forum and a lot of them would spam it with questions that have already been answered multiple times in numerous threads. But, that doesn't mean the system doesn't have some flaws and I'm sure there are enough problem solvers out here to come up with a more effective way to cut down on the spam while allowing new users to learn in an environment that is not at their throats for being newcomers.
