I might be going out on a limb here be even asking this but is it possible to hack Zune music files or even picture files to sync with WP8 devices
I'll admit I would like this too. It is a lot better than the "WIndows Phone App" for Windows 7". Dont get me wrong, if you have Windows 8, the app looks nice but, for Windows 7, would love to get this back so I can sync like I could with my 7.5 device.I might be going out on a limb here be even asking this but is it possible to hack Zune music files or even picture files to sync with WP8 devices![]()
I agree with you DavidinCT. I don't think Microsoft quite go the message when we asked them that we didn't need Zune for everything. Although I like the fact that they made the store separate; they still should have left Zune as a music player or at least given us a Xbox music app.I'll admit I would like this too. If you plug in your WP8 device to a computer, it will show as a drive and on the drive, it has a Music folder. There must be a way for Zune to sync with it as it would be almost just like syncing with a USB drive or a flash card.I agree with you DavidinCT. Good luck, I'll take a look if I get a second tonight to see if I can figure out anything but, I dont understand how Zune subsystem really works but, there has to be white paper on it or something...Hum found something but not sure; under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Zune>Sync>Windows Phone>Handlers>DNS. Can someone look into it and see if anything if it is possible to write a new entry or change something? If it's a dll that needs to be changed then I'll have to leave it to a pro, I'm no good with dlls. Hopefully someone with the know how can help us.
Cool let me know what you find because I've hit a bump.Good luck, I'll take a look if I get a second tonight to see if I can figure out anything but, I dont understand how Zune subsystem really works but, there has to be white paper on it or something...
he has a point here guys, and even if zune was jus copying music from one folder to another like a MP3 player it still wont work as zune has a database as well that would need amending. nope, without some kind of emulation layer, it is unlikely to ever be doneNot to be Eeyore here, but what you are trying to do is the equivalent of making Zune sync to an iPod or other Mp3 player. It can't be done. You need drivers and numerous other resources from Microsoft, which they have developed.
Agreed. The lack of phone-to-PC cloud sync is quite frustrating. 90% of the time I discover music from my phone and want it to sync back to my PC, not the other way around. Xbox Music has its fair share of issues, both in the backend service and in the horrible Windows 8 app. If they don't fix this on the phone in WP8.1, I don't think they'll ever get it right. The only reason I would want Zune to work with WP8 is wireless sync. Wish there was a way to do that with WP8![]()

It's just a shame because all they needed to do was rebrand Zune. Change the logo, color scheme, and name. I don't think we loyalists would have cared what it's called, as long as its functionality remained the same. Instead, they gutted it of all its unique and useful features, then reinvented the wheel. As a square wheel. Xbox Music is nothing more than a less-functional, slower Zune with fewer songs in its library. What a waste of time and development resources.
