Did you check with the app provided in STEP8 ?
No I didn't, but the device functions properly now while being charged through Pogo pin slot. Battery life is alright now. The only problem is that it's not charging through micro USB port

Problem: Xperia Z is not charging, not turning on, false battery stats or stuck in an non-software-caused bootloop... sometimes It's caused by a broken battery connector on the mainboard

try swapping battery first!

Ok guys... I present you...

XPERIA Z BATTERY BUG ***HARDWARE FIX***

It's a cheap n' dirty fix! Use at your own risk - I don't care if your house burned down because of this... :silly:

STEP 1 - Remove the Backcover (see this youtube video how to do it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNrtamZuf7E)
STEP 2 - Remove the Battery (Be very carefull not to crack your display doing this...)
STEP 3 - Bend Battery Connector Pins

STEP 4
- Get a very thin cable (eg. from a USB Cable you cut down) and a soldering iron
STEP 5 - Solder the cable to the battery pinpoint >> TH << and on to the testing pinpoint on the mainboard according to my images

Should look like this...

STEP 6 - Assemble everything together again and connect the phone to the original Sony Charger
STEP 7 - Wait 2-3h for the handset to be charged
STEP 8 *additional* - Boot up device and install Sony Mobile Battery Test from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/sony-mobile-battery-testing-app-version-t2527932 <--- (You can just take the .apk from the .rar file and install it)

STEP 9
SUCCESS! If your screen looks like this everything went fine:

Image of finished repair...I put some red plasti-dip around the fix-cable to isolate it
Any instructions on doing this on a Xperia Z1 Compact (D5503)? I've found a thread by munjeni containing a picture of the test points on Xperia Z1 Compact but I'm still very unsure what I should do -- the Xperia Z1 Compact does not have any labeled pinpoints in its battery as far as I can see.

Furthermore I'd like to ask for a clarification regarding step 3 -- what's the significance of bending the battery connector pins? I'm not sure if the connector on the Z1 Compact is any different, but it's not like I've been able to locate my magnifying glass...

Thanks in advance!

D5503 has similar battery connector but 6 pin so it looks different. Did you try swapping the battery? In most cases this solves the issue

Thanks for the swift reply! Nope, haven't yet purchased a new battery -- mainly because a new battery costs almost as much as I paid for the device itself. The phone itself was sold to me "as-is, for parts only", and according to the seller there was/is "some kind of an issue with charging". At one point, not sure how, I was able to boot up the phone enough to see that it's running an old-ish version of CyanogenMod but the OS seemed somehow unstable and the phone "died" (battery empty, or at least that's what the OS seemed to think, I guess) before I was able to do anything else with it.
These days the only reaction I can get from the phone is blinking red light of death (if plugged into a computer via USB with the battery connected to the phone normally) or rapidly blinking red light (if connected to a computer via USB and the battery has been removed).

Do you think a new battery would nevertheless be a worthwhile acquisition? Could it indeed be a simple (?) issue with the current battery as opposed to the micro-USB port/phone mainboard?
