Did Google ever fix the "Wrong remanufactured devices being sent to fill warranty claims" problem?

When I had an unlocked bootloader variant Pixel 2, it broke within a few months of use.
Google's standard operating procedure for this is to replace your brand new device with a remanufactured one.

They couldn't even get that right!
The reman plant that they were using, was not separating the different versions of the devices and they were basically sideloading 1 OEM rom.... the Locked bootloader version (aka the Verizon variant). Google sold the Unlocked Bootloader variant on their webstore only. Devices found at Bestbuy and Verizon were locked bootloaders.

They sent me 5 incorrect phones, which I might add, caused me to spend a great deal of time using my bust-ass backup device (LG v20). I like rooting my devices and Google allows for that...... but YOU try telling that to a stupid idiot phone rep! They'll tell you it's against the law. It was such a bad experience that I don't think I'll bother with pixels any more. Their phone representatives are not knowledgeable about Tech, I would find myself telling THEM how the devices worked more often than not. But beyond that, the entire process speaks to how Google cares about customers. We aren't customers, were what they mine data from. We're a commodity.

Besides,
When I finally convinced them to refund my purchase price, I moved to OnePlus and got a 7Pro.
That was over 2 years ago and I STILL cannot be more happy with this phone!!!!
I've never had a device that I loved for this long of time. It's still blazing fast and gets better radio reception (calls/bluetooth/wifi) than any of my previous devices ever did.

Anyway, I just thought I'd tell my story in case anyone wants to know how Google handles customer service problems. Before they order one of their garbage devices.

Thanks for sharing your story. I had a screen issue with my original Pixel XL and didn't have any complaints with the replacement process. However, the first thing I did when I got my replacement device was unlock the bootloader and transfer everything over.

I too would've been livid if I'd been in your situation, and many people, including phone reps, don't understand that being sim unlockable and bootloader unlockable are not the same thing. To be fair, most people can get by just fine not knowing the difference.

Glad you're not in jail for your illegal acts.....

I got the 512 GB version, since I like having lots of space, but your post reminded me of another potential positive.

As far as I know, the only way to get the 512 version is unlocked via the Google store. If my device fails and needs to be exchanged, I assume there is a high probability that it'll be replaced by another 512 GB unlocked variant......unless Google goes to the trouble of taking their Verizon refurbs, opening them up, swapping memory chips etc....

Again,, thanks for the good read. If unlocking my bootloader sends me to the chain gang at San Quentin, I'll take the risk....and promptly make sure my "bootloader" stays locked until my parole goes through.

News flash Mr. I tell the world about the devices I have and use:
Phone: Google Pixel 4 (Google Fi)
ROM: OTA

Tablet: Nexus 7 (2013)
ROM: Official LineageOS 18.1

Seems a bit Narrcisistic to me, I mean really who gives Flyin Fu** what you have and use. I guess you have some deep inert feelings of inadequacy that you feel the need to display the products you use to help you solidify your self-worth

But aside from that, I'll get one device on the 27th or the 28th So HAND.

Bank pre-authorizations happen all the time. It's just a hold but should drop off in 48hrs during business days M-F. Don't freak out brother not going to take your money.

PS, you're always better off using a major credit card this way if they try to play stupid games or something happens with an order you can always go to your credit card company and Dispute the charge and get your money back immediately from your credit card company. The credit card company will fight it out with the merchant service company.

Right now I have two items ordered a 512 gig and a 256 gig one shows to be received by October 27th or 28th so it had better ship today from what I understand Google ships products out of a Chicago location. The other order is slated from November 3-5. But we will see how it all plays out. I'm gonna flip one on Swappa for some extra cabbage.

On 10/20, I purchased a Pixel 6 P:ro unlocked 256 GB from the Google Store. I would have preferred the 512GB version but they don't have any. My shipment date for the phone is 12/23-28.

Honestly, No. 1. You're wrong. Bragging rights?? To what? That makes no sense at all. You're going to tell me in a casual conversation with a friend or in a group of friends and someone mentions "Oh cool I see you have the new Pixel 6 Pro" You're actually gonna spit out "Yea, and I didn't go the Poor Man's route and get the 128gb model, I stepped Up To The Plate for 512gb" I think you may be missing the point, when you consider for a measly $99 to double the storage capacity from 256gb to 512gb "It's A No Brainer". You may be asking why? because come the day your gonna flip it to get out of it (Sell It on Swappa) you maximize the selling price to the buyer. *That's The Point** Since there will be far fewer of the 512gb version available at any given time online that in and of itself drives the price much higher. (Supply and Demand Dictates Price) Let's also mention that online consumer storage is the name of the $$ money Game. Ill stick with Free storage and keep my usage down to pay $0.00 extra. "Never Trip Over Gold Looking For Pennies".
As for why I can make these statements I speak from experience ([email protected] QVY711)
42 Devices Sold at 100% Satisfaction: Swappa user since Oct. 14, 2013 (8 years)
As for my phone order, the Delivery date has stayed the same January 27, 2022. Now that is some Amazing ****!

Feel free to waste your money on something that really shouldn't be necessary. Its very costly to lose 500 GB of data. Not nearly so for 100.

Like I said I will feel free to take advantage of higher resale value. Since I've ordered two devices maybe I'll just flip one for $300 extra. I see people clamoring for the divice you didn't buy and that's a good thing. For me it's all about the law of supply (and there ain't none) and Demand** Tons' of Need in the market !! You don't do business in my world so best you stay clear of it your a little too closed minded but that's all good. I served 20 years for your right to choose. HAND 👌

Update:

TFI International buys UPS Freight for $800 million, rebranding as “TForce Freight”

UPS is selling its UPS Freight less-than-truckload (LTL) unit to TFI International Inc., a Canadian holding company that is parent to truckload giant CFI and other transport entities, for $800 million, subject to working capital and other adjustments. The company will rebrand as “TForce Freight” under Canadian ownership.

I posted this because my order was marked as shipped and I got a weird tracking number I have never seen before by a shipper I have never seen before. It's supposed to be delivered today. This is the first instance UPS tracking has been moved to TForce. Interesting considering three weeks ago UPS delivers a package to my home. So it seems the Corporate transition from UPS LTL is moving quickly. (LTL) = Less Than Truck Load which is to say UPS's name is being phased out so don't be surprised if the new kid on the block will be delivering your Google Pixel Device. P.S. the tracking is really crappy and does not have the usual UPS complete details as to the package transitions from city to city or place to place. The tracking is still very much rudimentary in the sense it's like a truckload moving not a package.
