I am an andriod fan before. Play with N7 for a while. Using custom roms kill the device three times (I have to send it back to manufacturer to fix). Now, I dare not root it. Have to wait for the office OTA. Android itself is open and flexible. But, at least N7, the hardware is not that good (just based on my experience).

Not sure why anyone would bother spending their time reading and posting on forums dedicated to android development just to say "Trash google move to apple". Not even sure if you're trolling or serious because of how ridiculous that seems but hey, whatever floats your boat.

I agree that the N7 (1st gen at least) has some hardware issues (poor life of NAND device and cheap, easy to break/bend usb port to name a few). But the act of rooting or flashing custom roms should have absolutely nothing to do with "killing the device," unless some user error is also to blame, such as flashing to the wrong partition, flashing incompatible roms, extreme overclocking of the CPU, or attempting to make any other modifications that are not compatible with the device. (of course there is always a risk in making modifications, but that's just part of the fun, and should be known before taking on these type of activities)

It's possible that the constant flashing of new ROMS to the device (and therefore frequently writing a lot of data to the chip at once which would not occur otherwise) could make the NAND chip expire faster. But typically the use of a custom ROM in and of itself is not going to be the cause of hardware failing (rooting as well has absolutely nothing to do with your hardware failing, assuming it's done correctly), as long as the ROM is compatible with the device.

If you've killed 3 devices within a warranty period, i'd say that's mainly just terrible luck (assuming some amount of user error is not also to blame :) ). I've had my N7 for around 2 years now, rooted and modified since day 1, and frequently flash new roms, and it's still going strong, same for my wife's N7.

Sorry for off topic, but I just couldn't help myself. :p

Understand. All the roms I used are from this wonderful forum:) I am kind of sure what I had been doing. Every time, it didn't die right after ROM change or root. It worked a while and then:(
2 or the 3 times, ASUS cannot fix the issue. They just sent me a new one. So, I have extended warranty and, so, I am still using it...
Thanks for your quick reply and hope everyone else have better experience.

I have multiple iOS and Android devices. Both OSes have their share of multiple headache inducing flaws. In just about all cases those flaws are because all the giant corps treat the little people like dog poop and don't care a whit about what we think our what is good or pleasing to us, but only how it all fits in the grand scheme to suck as much money and life out of us as they can.

Don't get me wrong, I'm an avowed capitalist. But two companies exerting essentially complete control of a market is NOT capitalism, but duopoly. Monopoly, duopoly, and oligopoly are enemies of capitalism, and governments used to step in to stop this bad behavior until they were all bought off - by the opolists.

Good news. I received the OTA update this morning. (Nexus 7 16gb no 3g) and I live in Australia.

If you haven't received it its because Google releases the updates slowly to have time to fix bugs. So they send it to 10% of the nexus 7s and get bug reports then send to 40% then 60% and then like 100%.

You will eventually get it if you haven't got it.(it will be less buggy so that's a plus)

Meh. The more reports I see of LP on N7 the less I want it. It seems to be a real RAM pig. I wish there were a comparison of 4.4 and 5.02 on N7 with two N7s side by side, running the same software. Stuff like app opening times, max tabs open possible in browser, etc.

Got mine yesterday. Seems laggy at the moment. I've seen reports that after time it settles down and improves, just have to wait and see.
