I have a rooted old nexus 7 LRX21P (ME370T).
I get the unexpected contents in "install-recovery.sh" error for some reason (possibly because it is rooted).
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Do I need to unroot first?

Apologies, but can you point me to the latter please?
It's been a while and I think I used Nexus Root Toolkit if I remember correctly.
Sorry to be the one that has to tell you this, but it is either wipe and flash the RIGHT way or don't bother.

Every single person I have seen with an issue on LP has been coming from a dirty flash. You absolutely need to wipe everything and flash clean. If you don't, you ARE going to have issues.

I know losing data can be painful. If you flash dirty you are not going to like it.

You really need to fully wipe the device by going into custom recovery and doing a full reset, not just factory reset, use the format device option. It should prompt you to type the word "yes" before it will run if you're on TWRP.

Then flash it like you normally would. Since you're flashing an ota and not the ROM image you may need to do a clean full stock install before it will flash. I personally do not use and never will use stock images, its my personal opinion they suck. That's just my opinion.
